I've read he's getting good reviews, but haven't seen him play live yet.

Thoughts?

He will be the starter by week 5. Because Carr and Haener will be in comas.

Well if it's any consolation, the line he played behind at SC was Swiss cheese, so he'll be used to that....

Funny, but true.

In that case make him the week 1 starter and ride.

He’s had some great throws and moments in camp. He was a rookie in the preseason game. Some ups some downs

He looks promising.

He doesn't look like a 5th rd pick to me, because I expect a 5th rd guy to be someone who you don't count on making the team (unless it's a kicker or deep snapper).
I see someone from that part of the draft as fighting to make the roster, nice if they do but not crushing if they don't. If we're talking QBs, I think a 5th rd guy is someone your staff is 'casually intrigued' by... such as Haener, or guys from smaller schools, that you think might have something to work with.

Rattler doesn't look that way to me. He has all the tools, and seems to have a sense of composure and awareness about him. I'd say he looks like a 2nd-3rd rd guy that you take with the purpose of grooming to start 3 years down the road.

For reference, look at the way the Lions-Chiefs game ended yesterday. Chiefs were playing Ian Book, a guy the Saints had taken 4th rd in 2021. Book still looked hesitant, didn't throw more than 10 yds down the field, and took a sack and fumbled to give the ball away inside field goal range for the Lions, when the Lions just needed a FG to take the lead late.
Killer mistake, you can't trust him 3 years into his career. Rattler looks better.
Lions playing Hendon Hooker, 3rd rd pick in 2023, who WAS passing and moving the ball. He looked physically better than Book; but he took a bad shotgun snap in FG range, and instead of eating the ball and preserving the kick, he slammed the ball loosely into his running back (at the shoulder pad level), causing a fumble that the Chiefs recovered. Again, a killer mistake that you just can't have.
Lions eventually won anyway, but had it been regular season they'd have lost on that. Chiefs would have lost on the Book fumble. Both plays were under 4 minutes in a 2 pt game.

What little opportunity I've seen Rattler, he seems ahead of both guys. Better physical skill than Book, more awareness than Hooker.

Hes alright nothing more nothing less.

Now if he continues to improve against the 1st and 2nd strings that the Saints are playing then i might change my mind but for now hes alright.

Lonnie it’s crazy how much his situation in New Orleans reminds me of his situation in Columbia.

He’s been throwing well when he has time but things have been dicey when the pocket collapses. He did a good job handling that against Arizona and then not so great against SF.

He will be one of the best value picks out of the draft class along with Nix.

Yeah, and while no fan of Carr, I admire his toughness but being run over by 4 guys including one of your own linemen every pass play will take its toll.
