I remember, as a child, my first time going to the Dome. We had seats in the terrace and I discovered what vertigo and a fear of heights were.
to the Superdome

Glad cooler heads prevailed in regards to needing a “new” stadium. The Dome was built to last and was already in the ideal location. Renovation was the right move and the renovations look great.

It’s been around 10 years too long. We already should have blown it up and built a modern stadium that’s on par with other NFL stadium’s standards.
That would require lots of planning and money though, and the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana are not so good with either of those things.
Instead, we’ll just keep putting up new lights and escalators until the Dome is 150 years old.

You are free to make all that happen in this great country.

50 years.
I can remember getting a tour of the building while it was under construction.

On the flip side, kudos for the state not to hook its' taxpayers on yet another vanity project that - obviously, given the building's longevity - isn't even necessary and the building of which would probably be grossly mismanaged anyway. It's such weirdly and refreshingly incorrupt thing for a notoriously corrupt state to do.

Domes in Atlanta and Seattle were built after Superdome and have been demolished and replaced.

Yep, but also don't forget about the RCA (Hoosier) Dome.

Probably because those cities realized that domes are lame, outdated, and antiquated sports venues. They were replaced with state-of-the-art stadiums

And the Metrodome and Silverdome.
I am still amazed that they demolished the Georgia Dome. It did not even last 30 years. I always thought of that place to be modern.
As a city that embraces history, tearing down the dome would be a sin. It has the best location compared to all the other NFL stadiums.
I am a little bummed that they removed seats during the renovation. I think it was because they were no longer ADA compliant. I miss the 79,000 jammed in there during the 2004 and 2008 national championships. Boy that place was loud. I don't think we will ever see 70K again.

I remember when Benson pitched that new open air stadium design to be placed at the river. First thing that came to mind was who the hell is going to want to sit in the blazing sun at 12PM on a Sunday? The UCLA game we were forced to play early last year was miserable. 1/4 of the stadium left after the first quarter. No one wants to be miserable at an NFL game.
We need a dome, but I do think they could have considered opening the stadium to allow for natural light via fixed windows. They mentioned adding natural light from the feasibility study they did in 2002. That study is what lead to the rebuilding of the plaza. They only let natural light into the club lounges.

Jeff Duncan listed his top 10 events in Superdome history. I was at 6 of them.
LSU National Champions 2019
Ali - Spinks
Saints to the Super Bowl
Steve Gleason vs Falcons
Brees breaks passing record
Pistol Pete scores 68 vs Knicks
That list is his opinion. I can think of numerous other events that deserve consideration.

That was on the list too but I wasn’t at that one.
