2011 Wildcard game deserves mention. Saints (11-5) were the defending SB Champs, and arguably had their most talented team. They were a 10 pt. road favorite @ Seattle (7-9). Saints handily beat the SeaHawks in Week 11, 34-19 as most thought this would be a route. Instead, Saints lose to Matt Hasselbeck and are forever reminded of the Beast Quake run late in the 4Q. Just one of many games the Saints should have never lost

IMO the playoff loss in 1987 to the Vikings was much tougher. First, because it was our first, but, also, we were the red hot team that year and up until that game we were winning by good margins....Actually, Minnesota that year backed into the playoffs because the Bears had lost, we were favored by a good bit.

then........

Anthony Carter

This one is tough, though.....very tough

That was tough - beast mode is certainly memorable if not epic, but we were never really having major control of that game and we fell behind in the third and were playing catch up .

1992 against Philly in the dome was maddening.....Hebert started throwing picks in the second half and we were up 20-7

not sure how it beats the 1983 Rams game. This was just three years after the 1980 "Aints." A win over the Rams and the Saints have their first ever winning season and first ever playoff game.

Completely outplayed the Rams. Of the 26 points the Rams scored 23 came from defense or a punt return. New Orleans punts down the Los Angeles 5 with 2:00 left and the Rams finally put a drive together. Mike Lansford makes a 42 yd field goal with :06 and the Rams win, 26-24.

because it was not in the PLAYOFFS where we were down BIG on the road and it was not a walkoff fluke bullshite like yesterday was NOR was it two ridiculous drives in a row late at frisco in 2012 where our blitz got torched. i watched that game in 1983.

shite the 1992 playoff game at home against eagles was worse than the 1983 game. we blew a big lead. bobby hebert CHOKED!

#Metoo

That was the absolute most soul crushing 2nd half up to that point in Saints history. Also Hebert's last game as a Saint and the beginning of the end of the Mora era.

It has to be SF in 2012. Win that game, and you're probably winning the Super Bowl.

Yeah. How Mora was 0-4 in the playoffs was amazing. All tough losses. Vikings. Bears. Falcons. Eagles. If we had the dome patrol with this offense. Holy shite.

Still believe that Hebert choked in that game....I think Jim Finks did too and sent his arse packing the next season

Mora, I believe was 0-6 lifetime as a coach in the playoffs. Most of his seasons were at or near playoff level as a coach, but would flounder after that. Andy Reid comes to mind, although he has done more in the playoffs and has had more dominant teams for a longer period of time.

I'm with the 49ers loss camp. We had already destroyed the giants that year, and I think 2011 was our best team. Even better than 2009. Yesterday sucked, but I was completely crushed after the 49ers game. Straight up.

We had 5 turnovers to SF's 1. We otherwise dominated them. It was awful.

49ers was worse. Yeah we would've been favored next week but that '11 team just brutalized people.

Still say the loss to the Eagles in 1992 was worse because it destroyed the Saints for another 8 years after that, the Saints did not have another winning season until 2000...key players left the team right after that....Hebert gone/cut, Dome patrol starts to be dismantled

2011 team should have been one for the ages given how fine tuned that offense truly was and the defense wasn't bad either....Harper just fricked up. We would have run the Giants out of the stadium the next week.....we had done earlier in the season and I think we would have handed Belichick's arse to him because as good as Brady is, he did not have the weapons that Brees had ( Sproles, Graham, Colston....Henderson and Pierre and Meachem)

49ers loss was the worst ever.

With that said, it's just so difficult to make a run to the Superbowl without being the 1 or 2 seed. It feels like it's not practical to have that expectation as seeds 3-6.

1983 Rams game

I was 6. That was the first time I had my heart ripped out by the Saints.

Last night was the first time it happened to my boy (9)

Big bummer, but kind of a fun father-son bonding experience. I would probably still be stewing over this today, but I had to have a stiff upper lip for his sake. Had to get out of FanMode and into DadMode about 5 minutes after the game.

The 2011 team was stacked. They would have won the Super Bowl. Pats were very weak that year and the Giants did not matchup well especially in the dome. This team was 50/50.

Thanks for reminding me in detail of all other horrible losses. Beast mode and 48ers were worse because we were heavily favored and likely win another super bowl in both years
