NFL Dennis Allen article

"I've thought about this a lot," he said. "Would I like to be a head coach again? The answer is: absolutely, yes

So who is after Dennis Allen?
and is he on the Saints Radar or in the current building as a assistant?

If DA leaves, I think we have the guys on staff to fill that role. Aaron Glenn comes to mind, but I think Mike Nolan gets the nod before him. I'd be giddy as hell if we promoted Nolan to DC. Dude is legit.

I’m a huge Dennis Allen fan, but that concerns me he wants to be a HC again.

I feel like failed defensive HCs don’t really turn it around as HCs again. I’m sure people can point to older examples of success, but in general it feels like offensive minded coaches are having more success in the NFL right now. The Pats don’t count bc that division is trash.

I liked the idea of Allen as DC because I didn’t see him leaving any time soon.

The team that is perennially in the super bowl or at least AFCCG doesn’t count?

Just the nature of the business. Rumors that your assistants may leave is a good thing.

Meh.

Name one consistently decent QB in their division over he past 20 years.

Chad Pennington? I mean seriously.

They pretty much can walk into home field playoffs with a bye every single season because of how horrid that division is.

It’s disgusting how terrible that division is every single year.

Pete Carroll got it right the second time. He’s a defensive coach.

Raiders dysfunction allowed Saints to get Allen back.
As long as you don't make a hire like Spags it will be fine because the personnel is a lot better now with the draft hits.

Do you really not understand the extreme advantage the Pats have had being in the shittastic AFC East for the past two decades? Not to mention the AFC as a whole has been much weaker than the NFC throughout that time as well.

Example: The Patriots get to close out this current season by playing the BILLS and the DOLPHINS back-to-back in weeks 16 and 17 - BOTH AT HOME. And they're at Cincinatti before that in week 15!!

Meanwhile, the NFC is a dog-fight down the final zero of every game in week 17 for playoff seeding.

UM without digging at all

Bill Belichick
Pete Carroll

are two that have done it

Also DA was the coach for the Raiders. That alone shouldn't count as indicative of the league as a whole

All that said I would be okay promoting Mike Nolan

I doubt they try to pull anyone from NCAA unless they could sway Venables or Aranda definitely don't see the latter happening.

In the NFL Dan Quinn may be looking for work soon. I'd also be okay if we could poach Chuck Pagano from the Bears or Leslie Frazier from the Bills. But that's same situation we are in now Former Head Coaches who may want another shot.

as I was looking up names I noticed Joe Vitt is working for Greg Williams in New York for the Jets. Lets all take a minutes to laugh at this

whatever team he goes to they wont be ready to play until game 5 minimum, its a 100% surety like clock work even with no changes made in off seasons

i like him and want him to stay but his game plan is every season forfeiting the first 4 games on defense and then with small leads he plays constant soft zone keeping opponents in games is frustrating as hell

Harbaugh & Tomlin would also be considered defensive coaches with some recent success.

I'd be more concerned with losing Ireland than any of our assistant coaches. the recent success this team has had, ties directly with the hiring of Ireland.

I'd be good with any of those names. Also Vic Fangio if Elway ends up running him off some day.

It’s hilarious how worked up some of our fans get when another team is complimented on this board. No need to get defensive. Of course I understand it.

You still can’t “discount” a team who has managed to win the super bowl six times in 17 years. Are we not capable of thinking that the patriots are fortunate to play in the East while still realizing that they have an all time coach and qb? Their record is pretty comparable to the rest of their schedule outside of their division as well. They had great success against manning and have basically owned a very talented Steelers franchise as well. That team has won in a multitude of ways over the years and coaches up trash heap players into pro bowl like players.

It’s completely asinine to write their success off simply to a weak division.

The Pats don't count because BB is one of the best coaches of all time. Has nothing to do with the division

Pete Carroll says "Hi". He got 3 shots before it clicked for him.

That being said he is certainly one of the exceptions, but I think some defensive backgrounds have more trouble than others; such as LB and DL coaches. I believe coaches that do well in the NFL often times started out at skill position coaches on the offensive side and secondary coaches on the defensive side. They are typically better at understanding how to get their best players in the best position to win match-ups.

He's a great coach, but division still helps.
