I think that because the Saints currently lack strong ownership because of Mr. Benson's advancing age that we are stuck with Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis at least until Benson passes away, we otherwise get new ownership or otherwise Payton quits of his own accord.

This year's pending losing record will be the third in a row which would normally be enough to end most coach's tenure, but that isn't how it currently feels with the Saints. Payton just signed a contract extension. Seems like he'll be here a while. And I currently see very little reason to be encouraged after consistently bad defense and continuous personnel failures in free agency and the draft.

What's the Saints Talk hot take?

Payton may go one day, but Loomis seems to be on a lifetime deal

The worse part about the 10 year anniversary was that it was constant reminder that it's OVER. Brees will never be back in the playoffs in our uniform. Payton and Loomis trying to get back to a SB just dug in the quicksand and made us sink deeper.

I'm guessing that if things are still kind of sketchy then Payton may step down of his own accord after Brees retires in a few years. That seems the only way he leaves to me.

Eta: might as well ride it till you can't anymore. There might not be any use in starting over with a new coach at this point anyway until after Brees is gone.

Payton and Loomis are here for awhile. Loomis is running the Saints and Pelicans. He isn't going anywhere. Payton just signed on to be the highest payed coach in the league. He isn't going to step down. We need a new leadership. Alot of people say the Saints mimic the Patriots organization but I fail to see that. They have a great owner, amazing head coach, and they don't shite the bed. They are at the top of the nfl and we are just average now.

May be right.

Loomis seems to have the ultimate job security, though, according to everybody in the know.

Morestead is arguably our best draft pick in the Payton era. JS

That's why you should be saying 8 Hail Marys hoping for Benson's death. That'll release this team from the nightmare of Sean and Loomis good ol' boying it up on the sideline

how is Benson dying going to fix anything? You think his fricking wife is gonna fire Payton or Loomis?

Yes and she'll move the team to Las Vegas. Best thing for New Orleans IMHO

The future of the team is Gail's, so the ownership aspect does not bother me. She is not moving the team.

What does concern me is GM/Coach/QB.

I think it's safe to say our window has closed. Too many coaches, outside of Payton, that have out stayed their welcome. Loomis is a bum GM and Benson is on his last leg. There is no bright spot anytime soon.

Our only hope is to start building through the draft

That's kind of the point. The GM and coach have been performing mediocre at best for several years now, and there doesn't seem to be any urgency or pressure from the top for that to change. Ole Tom seems kind of out of it, and the lunatics are currently running the asylum without consequences. Does Gail have the strength and power to make necessary changes when she takes over? I guess we'll see, but it doesn't seem like Tom is doing anything soon.

Eta: this thread has nothing to do with moving the team. It has to do with the leadership at the top that ownership is supposed to provide that seems to be completely absent.

I can't wait to read TigerBait1127's response to your post. Sean Payton is worth every penny he is paid. His ability to evaluate defensive players may actually be worse than Les Miles' ability to evaluate QBs.

The Saints have the same problem that LSU has. They can cut Payton loose, like LSU did with Miles...but I'm afraid that Benson and Loomis are proving to be the Saints' F. King Alexander and Joe Alleva.

We're stuck with Loomis until Tom is not longer in charge (for whatever reason that maybe), and then about 5 years after that the Saints are sold to the highest bidder.

Benson ain't doing nothing but breathe. Payton and Loomis are the one's running everything with no accountability.

Holy shite people, let a narrative die. You can shout your crazy arse parallels as loudly as you want, but it's not remotely the same thing.
