I’ve been digging on how the Olave bros got a drop on possible Lloyd interest and here is my theory

Terrell Burgess and Julian Blackmon played on the same defense as Lloyd at Utah for a few years. Nephi Sewell as well. Devaughn Vele was also on that team for two years.

Burgess & Lloyd follow each other on instagram. Vele and Blackmon don’t appear to be on the app

Blackmon and Lloyd have done jersey swap in the NFL - so obviously there is love there.

But assuming Olave talks to the WRs the most, perhaps Vele got word from Lloyd that the Saints were offering him. He lets Olave know, who lets his DA brother know

Dammit. I feel like we should’ve gone to 15

Maybe. Greenlaw was just released and this is a good LB draft class. It sucks but is what it is.

For what it’s worth, Underhill said he never could confirm the Saints were even interested. Could have been agent pumping out fake interest to get Carolina to spend that $15M

I keep forgetting about Greenlaw. Hopefully we get in on that action

I think we were used for leverage tbh. I’m sure we were interested but I don’t think they were ever going to pay an ILB $15M after the other contracts they handed out today.

Would still like to see them go get Greenlaw or pivot to a CB/re-sign Cam

Dre Greenlaw of the Denver Broncos was suspended for one game due to unsportsmanlike conduct after a game against the New York Giants. The NFL stated that Greenlaw chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field.

Found this and he seems like he’s been hurt the last couple years fwiw

I’m totally ok with leaving LB alone until the draft. But would like to see them add Cam back and go after a CB.

I definitely agree, we aren’t replacing Cam’s leadership and production with anyone better for his price and role

I'm feeling pretty good about what the Saints did today. With gains there will be losses, but they clearly have a plan, and it feels better than it did during the DA/Carr era.

This has nothing to do with it. If you tracked what other LBs got today, Davis was an overpay at $11 mil, so $15 mil was a vast overpay for LB.

They had a couple of good ones go in the $7-8 mil range today and this dude just got double that, and is not twice as good.

We likely offered around what Davis got and stopped, because even that is higher than they should be going based on the market.

Great move for them, but not a need for New Orleans for that money.

It wasn’t vast. Jamein Sherwood had worse stats than Lloyd and is at 15/year.

I don’t even view LB as a big need. Werner and Stutsman are your starters. Stalbird is obviously well liked too.

If Stutsman hits, like we all think, then you’re set. Draft Werner’s eventual replacement.

Have you seen Sherwood's numbers the last 2 years? Dude is a legit tackling machine. Far more than Lloyd has had in any season. And he's more than a full year younger, which isn't a lot but still something teams consider.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised at the quick start today. We made a handful of really good signings

The OL on paper looks a lot better with Edwards, but I think another guard is needed, either through free agency or the draft. Ruiz ain't it

Bit surprised that we haven't really been linked to WRs outside of Doubs and that was nearly a week ago. I think the second round pick will likely be one

Etienne is a really good fit and will provide a nice weapon. He's being paid top 10 money, which lines up with what he did last year, but he needs to stay on the field.

Overall, today was a great start. I hope they continue filling needs tomorrow and on into free agency but I think they got 2 of the best guys at the biggest positions of need.

Stallbird flashed every time he got on the field too

Anthony Hill or Jacob Rodriguez would be a nice get too

Stalbird is not really a LB. He's an edge and played there exclusively. He is not going to take a spot in the rotation of the stand up LBs.

Sherwood's numbers

The pure tackle numbers leave something to be desired but it seems Lloyd is a better rusher and has a better overall rating. These are the comps Spotrac listed
