Loves soph year he dominated the competition. Think they had players graduate and a coaching change. And he left as a junior.
Same for Stafford, who played much tougher competition. And he started as a true freshman.
Cousins started 3 full seasons.
Purdy was a rare 4 full season starter.

Stop. 40 is not a "very high pick" by any criteria
It is a very high pick, several first round talents were available this year. Just b/c the Saints usually blow their top picks doesn’t mean it’s not valuable. This isn’t the nba.
We could have had Brian branch instead of Fosky, the best tight end two years ago, Laporta, was just taken in that range. Cooper Dejean just went last year in the 2nd.

You’re arguing value with us taking our starting qb w a 40 pick. You can’t be this dense

Not always, but if you start as a freshman for four years at a major school, that’s a ton of experience. Even if you didn’t dominate.

Not only is it tiresome but your confidence that you know better than everyone else displays an alarming lack of self-awareness. I hope it keeps you entertained, but none of us actually think your opinion has particular value, no matter how many times you repeat it.

I'm definitely not on the Shough bandwagon and think we picked him two rounds too soon, but the real issue is that there was only 2-3 (Depending on your opinion of Sanders) QBs in this draft who actually have a shot at playing at the next level. Shough at least has a couple of traits (arm strength, mobility) that you could theoretically build around. Biggest issue with Shough is he's made of paper and lost his job and had to transfer twice due to injuries. We're talking about a guy who made it through one season healthy in 7 tries at the college level which basically negates the mobility he has.
Next year's draft is likely more of the same unless some underclassmen come up. Don't care how many QBs draft projections have going, if Allar is your #3 QB, it's a bad QB class.

Posting his age and statistics are not opinions nor is it bad mouthing him. They are just facts. If that hurts your little feelings than you should get off the internets

Exactly, you don’t take that at 40. Could he beat all these odds and become a good starting qb in the league. Anything is possible, look at the nba lottery odds last night, it was like a .0000123 chance the top 3 gets those picks. But the odds are definitely stacked pretty high against Shough
Our defense was dead last most of the year last year, so we go offense with our first two picks. I just think we are sucking next year, might as well wait for the better class of qb. Which we might end up having to draft again next year anyway.

ETA The FO must have seen something strong to use a second to get him.
I keep saying people say this. The reality is, they knew they didn't have a QB on the roster and didn't have the cap space to sign one, so they drafted one. Ward and Dart were gone in the first, so their options were take Shough or Sanders. They took the better of two bad options. It's not a shining endorsement.

It’s what we all know it was at the time, a massive reach.
Shough looked like an old raw rookie at the just completed minicamp. Some nice spirals and can spin the ball a little, but even Underhill said he’s way behind Rattler at this stage.

How many qbs in history that didn’t dominate in college end up being great in the pros. Especially one with such a huge age advantage over everyone else.
Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes come to mind…

He doesn’t have a great receiving core from what I’ve seen. There’s a lot to like about him. I don’t know if he’s the answer, but I’m excited to see what he can do.
