Florio: Derek Carr being cut by Feb 15 is most likely scenario

According to this, any trade talk regarding Carr at this point is nonsense. Compensation cannot be worked out until Carr can talk to other teams about a restructure, but the Raiders won't grant permission without compensation being finalized. It's an unending cycle.

As long as the Saints do not act desperate, this could work for them with.

He’s got a no trade clause. They are going to cut him. He does not have to accept a trade. Why would he force his new team to give up assets when he can wait a couple weeks and go for free?

Unless he feels his current contract is better than the one he can get on the market.

He would keep more money if he’s traded I’d guess due to his massive contract

he's a solid qb, but not worth his contract, that's why he's being traded or cut. would be a good addition for the right price.

Same thing happened with Payton. An agreement has to be made between the teams first, otherwise no reason to let them talk to Carr.

Or it’s just impossible

Raiders are over a barrel. They know if anyone talks to Carr, they're just going to talk about deals they can give him in FA. They're desperate to try to get something, but probably aren't going to. They have no leverage at all.

I can’t believe some people are even considering Carr. If you really do want to go back to the old Saints then by all means go get him. You have to shoot much higher than him. This will only be solved in the draft or by a blockbuster trade of some sort that drains our draft capital. This is why you have to find a QB in the draft. It doesn’t have to be this year although I would still take one anyway.
There’s no true sure things in this year’s draft at QB so if we used our picks to fortify both lines of scrimmage I wouldn’t be mad. You may suck next year but you will have a high pick with better options at QB and you will have some young talent around them. It’s going to take several draft classes to rebuild this team but you have a few young pieces to build with already and some extra draft capital now, you just have to hit. Unfortunately I have zero confidence in Dennis Allen, Carmichael and Loomis.

i could have told you this at the exact moment they benched him.... didn't take a rocket scientist to see the writing on the wall and how this was going to play out exactly how it is...

exactly... he's a top half of the league QB, better than Jameis and Dalton... roll with him, take Duggan in the later rounds and hope he can develop fast, reevaluate next season, and if we still need to, then draft QB in the 1st next year.... 29 is too far down to commit to a QB this year

completely agree. we aren't bad enough to get williams or maye next year, but it's a deep class for '24. take a stab at a late round guy this year and take one in the first round next year if need be. if carr's price tag is too high, just re-sign dalton and go through the same process.

An average Qb with elite support is easier to find than an elite Qb.

We are 1 solid draft away from winning this division, 2 solid drafts away from contending.wasting a high draft on a random Qb seems pointless. That 1st with where players project can fill one of many needs (wr, IOL, DL)

I hope and pray that the Saints are outbid for Carr on the open market. Football-wise, I'd be devastated with Derek Carr as the Saints QB for the foreseeable future.
