I know it’s tight but what about up front money or back loaded?

No.

Even if we did, he can be franchise tagged (and will be) multiple times before he's paid his true value.

Andy Dalton is about the best thing that will be the most reasonable cost to help us be competitive over next year or two while we rebuild this thing.

I'm sure we will grab some QB backups or PS QB's on the cheap as well. They will try to find some competition for Red. Its obvious this staff is done with JW. I don't know why he would stick around next year.

Dalton/Taysom/ they'll be plenty of options for a decent qb 3 this offseason. A Sam Darnold type, Gardner Minshew, Nick Mullen, Heinicke etc

We have this issue every year and every year Loomis somehow shifts and restructures to get us in the black at least marginally. The negative side of this is we end up trading or not resigning solid to better players because of that.

Most of this is related to Brees' contracts and the win-now position we were in when his window was closing. I think we get out of that in 2-4 years even with the maneuvering we have to do now but who knows?

Good spot to look at it. We have cap space now, we will be over next year as situated now but we will see then.

Notice the dead money hell we have been in will decrease significantly before any moves we make and will be eliminated in two years. So any issues going forward will be based on what we do from here on.

At least that is what it looks like to me, there are quite a few people on here that understand it better. There are also a crap ton of people who will spout off with no real idea of how things work.

Are you going to ask "WHY!?!" after every answer?

This^^

Embrace the suck.

ETA: Take note of all the names jumping ship during this rebuild. In a few years when the Saints are pushing deep in the playoff again remember to put your boot squarely to their face as you push them off the bandwagon.

Unfortunately it ain't explainable to a 5 year old in any meaningful fashion.

Let me try:

We have a magic money man in the front office, he made things better before but it hurts now. Maybe he can do it again and not have it hurt us so much tomorrow. But no one knows for sure yet.

Think that sums it up.

No one can go after Lamar

He will never come close to FA. They will franchise tag him 3 times before they ever let him near the open market.

No and good. Dude won't be elite much longer. As soon as he loses a little speed like Vick, he'll be a backup.

Plus, it would take him four years to learn our playbook

Nah, nor should we pay top dollar for a QB with 3 years of prime remaining.
