LSU fans rooting for mortal SEC enemies in bowl games

Saints fans rooting against mortal NFC South enemies in the playoffs

Do Saints fans take no pride in their division? Do Saints fans not want their division to be perceived as the best in the NFL? Why does the hate not transform into love and affection come the postseason? Why were we all not Falcons yesterday?

its a fricking 4 team division, not an entire conference or region of the country. the ONLY time the driveman takes conference pride is in the super bowl because i'm an NFC GUY unless its the cryboys or the falCANTS, they can go frick themselves. the bears TOO

The Falcons have voiced their hatred, disdain and contempt for the people of NOLA and Louisiana and ALL things Louisiana for decades. THEY started the hate.

Now they have to REAP the whirlwind !

Muuaa-haaa-haaa-haaaa !!

WAY TO GO PACKERS !

PS Besides, the Green Bay Packers are LSU hero Jim Taylor's main team. So last night was a win for Green Bay, NOLA and LSU !

New Orleans Saints are STILL the defending Superbowl Champs!

For the record-I don't understand the whole pull for the SEC thing.

The only thing I can see is that college fb is based a lot on opinions and you need your conference to look strong in order to get benefit of the doubt on rankings, bowls, etc.

Wasn't rooting for Auburn in the NCG. Ordinarily, would probably support the SEC, but, think the Cam Newton thing kind of tainted it.

I agree pulling for the SEC, but for the falcons, yea it be nice if they won and it be back to back NFC South winning the Super Bowl. However, they did talk shite about us so they deserve to lose.

It's the fine line between being proud of your conference/division and then having to hear their smack for an entire year (or forever).

Motherfricking karma for those douchebags. This isn't like CFB, where being the best conference might help recruiting at individual schools.

frick a Falcon.

Um, the difference is obvious.

In college football, the ability to win championships depends in part upon the perceived strength ofn your conference. National championships and BCS title appearances are based on polling. Hence, I root for other SEC teams to win bowl games so that the SEC is considered to be the best conference in America. This redounds to LSU's benefit in years where LSU is competing for an NC appearance against teams from other conferences with identical records (see 2003, 2007).

In the NFL, there is no polling. Playoff seeding is determined by records and division championships. Super Bowls are determined by a playoff system. Hence, there is zero advantage in rooting for your mortal enemy.

Yep-I didn't really want Auburn to win but I must admit that hearing a few days of the media love/awe for the SEC was very enjoyable.

exactly. also, sec tradition is obviously a lot richer than a day-before-yesterday commercial football conference. i could give two fricks about the three other teams. why should i care about them?

Conference respect can get any one of the 12 teams into a particular bowl game ahead of other teams. So pull for your own conference.

The NFL is a different game.

If you had read the falcon boards last year this thread would never have been born.

This is not a college football chat room. Any arguments comparing the two are invalid and a waste of time.

which is stupid in my opinion. I cheer for the school I went to. I am secure enough that I don't need to feel that it's conference is superior simply because schools that I usually pull against have a shot to win it. I've pulled against UF, Bama, and Auburn because frankly I like Texas, OU, and Oregon more.

Why would I want to see the team I hate more than any other in sports win anything?

It's professional sports...who gives a flying shite, I take pride in THE SAINTS WINNING. Divisions change from year to year with free agents, retirement, and injuries.

Again every single year divisions are dramatically different. And no I could care less, because THE SAINTS still need to actually play and win games to make it to the ultimate prize. Unlike the beauty pageant that is college football.

Because we're not a bunch of insecure pussies.

The sec cheers for each other because in college perception is everything. You have to be voted into the national title so playing in a strong conference helps. In the nfl you get your chance on the field nobody how your division performs.
