Expectations for Abram Smith

How good do you guys think Abram Smith will be? Do you think he will make the team? The Saints struck gold with Pierre Thomas in UDFA and found other great RB’s in UDFA like Chris Ivory, Khiry Robinson, etc. Does that happen again here with Smith?

When talent meets opportunity, good things can happen.

I feel like he can make the team since he can play on the coverage teams with his LBer background.

I don't really have any expectations for an udfa.
Making the team would be a big accomplishment. Thankfully, RB is a position that's easy to catch on fast.
Playing special teams will really help his cause.

Yup. The competition on special teams is going to insane this year. They better put a red jersey on the returners
With our RB's right now I think he has a shot but I think more to the P.S. for him. I think we pick up a shifty Vet at cuts to help during AK's possible missed games.

Bringing Sony in sounds like we are still shopping for a RB
Tells me there will likely be an open competition for RB4/special teamer role between Smith Wash Jones Adams

It’s like PT, Ivory and Robinson totally shocked us, which is cool.
Since then we expect every UDFA RB to be “the next Pierre Thomas” and it doesn’t happen anymore. I think that started with that Flanders guy from Sam Houston. He was this FCS superstar but he wasn’t ready for the NFL.
I remember when people melted over cutting Ozigbo. And we got him back two years later because he couldn’t beat out a Jags UDFA and he was crap.

This board overhypes any UDFA that shows the semblance of a pulse in the offseason. Not saying it's a bad thing, actually makes preseason games a little fun

My expectation is for him to push Dwayne Washington for a roster spot which mostly depends on his ability to beat him out on special teams and less for his ability as a running back.

To be fair, a huge part of the success for NO running backs was because teams had to play extra DBs against Brees.

His run style should fit Marrone’s scheme.

bullshite!!!
Ivory was a beast

Yeah, it’s bullshite. We were a one cut zone blocking scheme under Marrone. That’s why Ivory feasted. He needed to cut to the hole and destroy the second level.

His highlights remind me of LF7. One cut or a spin, then accelerate and try to knock db's out.

anything less than Arian Fosters career is unacceptable.

Call me biased, but I feel like Pierre Thomas is the gold standard for a UDFA running back’s career.
Played for 8 years, played in and won a Super Bowl, played in over 100 games, and was productive in both the running and passing game.
Posted on 5/11/22 at 11:42 am to SaintlyTiger88
I'll call you biased because both played 8 years and Foster had 28 more total TD's and 2,718 more rushing yards and only 346 less receiving yards.

I wouldn’t be upset if Smith achieved what either of those guys achieved!

He's meh at everything.
So no expectations, I would be shocked if he got any serious playing time.

Saints just released RB Josh Adams, so Abram Smith now has less competition. We now have 5 RB's...
Kamara
Ingram
Tony Jones Jr.
Dwayne Washington
Abram Smith

Dwayne Washington
