He looked great last year as a rookie when he had his chances. If he improves on his great rookie performance we will look back at him being an absolute steal. Playing alongside Davis will do wonders for his development also. There is a reason you haven’t seen the Saints making moves for linebackers. There is a lot of faith inside the building with him.

He’s one of the players I’m most excited to watch this year because I believe he will be a Saint for a long time.

I think he’s going to be a good one. It’s telling what they think of Werner that they haven’t brought Kwon back.

Last year he was out of position alot and doesn't have the speed need for proper coverage down field.

I rarely remember him being out of position much. I honestly really didn’t like the pick when they made it but felt like he played really well and exceeded expectations.

False. He was usually in the right hole. Was great against the run. Didn't miss many tackles. Great linebacker

he actually has good speed for a linebacker and had a good rookie season. he did well all around. he isn't a glorified strong safety like kwon, but did much better than kwon against the run. did a solid job in coverage too. he's an important piece in our defense. solid all-around linebacker.

I mean Kwon may still be back, but the plan should definitely be to get Pete more snaps this year.

And we should refer to him as “Dean” Werner going forward.

Pete doesn't look the part of a LB because he played a little light, but he is a hell of a player

Yeah Werner’s best trait was always being in the right position. Some fans have no idea what they are talking about but still talk.

Dude got burned in the vertical game constantly.

Brees was a stats master but blew all the big games.

Doesnt matter if he had a high run defense. You can plug anyone into that position and get a similar outcome.

Hes. Essentially Scott Shanley 2.0

We drafted 2nd rd. Scott Shanle

He was rock-solid in run defense, earning the highest Pro Football Focus grade in that category (91.0) among all linebackers. He was credited with a run stop rate of 9.5%, which ranked fourth-best among first-year linebackers who saw 100 or more snaps. Great lateral agility and a knack for quickly diagnosing and reacting to running plays helped him consistently get into position.

I mean he wasn't as good as kwon or demario in coverage but he was a rookie who only played abt 400 snaps on defense. He has the tools to get it done.

I get what you are saying though. He did struggle some in coverage. I don't agree that you could put anyone there and they would succeed in the run game.

He was elite against the run.
