One of the best stories on the Saints from a national writer that I Have ever read. Some good insights and thoughts that many of us have known but not seen in national press- specifically, how great Brees is and that this team will cook if it can maintain just a decent, not even great, defense.

enjoy the read HERE

quote:

During his time with New Orleans, Brees hasn't needed a great defense. He hasn't even needed a decent one. When Sean Payton gives Brees a remotely competent defense, Brees delivers him to the postseason. I've mentioned this before, but the numbers are staggering.

Drew Brees is the best qb to never win MVP and I sincerely hope that changes this year

Two QBs that played for us are 1 (Archie) and 2 (Jim Everett) on the list of QBs who started at least 10 years with the worst defense to back them up. Brees is 6th.

I know Everett was only here 3 years, but having him and 2 long time Saints on the list is pretty shameful.

And in an era of free agency and parity, it's even more shameful Brees is the only modern QB on that list.

He's going to have to pick his numbers up. He is on pace for "only" 4,227 yards, which would be his lowest total with the Saints. That would have been 10th last year.

Not a complaint, just saying you aren't going to get an MVP vote finishing just ahead of Russell Wilson in passing yardage.

Just finished reading this piece. Excellent article. Here's to hoping Brees finally gets the recognition he deserves nationally. He's more than earned it by now

I hope Cam Jordan starts getting national recognition too, he's been a consistent force for years now

I'll settle for another SB MVP award.

Brees won't have to compete with a Manning or Rodgers this year.

He even delivered a 13-3 record with a dismal defense in 2011, only to be taken out in the postseason by an offensive outburst from Alex Smith and the 49ers in one of the most dramatic playoff games in recent NFL history.

God dammit why did he have to mention this game

Exactly. Regular season MVP is a contrived beauty pageant result. SB MVP all the way baby and twice on Sunday.

Sorry I didn't read through the rest of the thread, this line got me all excited...anyone got the numbers he's talking about?

Rodgers threw for 4300 in 2014 and won mvp. If Brees can remain efficient he will have a great shot. I expect the TD passes to be in the 30-36 range by years end, but of course he will end up with one of those classic 5 TD games as some point. He keeps the INT numbers low and they stay winning I like his chances.
