Everyone wanted Marcus Williams gone

But it’s been big play after big play given up all year. Deep touchdowns or our safeties whiffing on tackles (honey Badger) that go to the house.
Careful what you wish for.

90% of this board didn’t want him gone, probably 95%
Posted on 10/17/22 at 12:58 pm to Townedrunkard
Could we even afford him?

Williams not the guy to take care of that

You want to bump the honey Badger thread. So many people happy he was gone and replaced by the honey Badger lol.

Honey Badger looking a lot worse than expected. I don't think people really wanted him gone, just didn't think we could pay the price for him at the time. Seems like the price would have been worth it now.

We couldn’t afford to keep him. I think most knowledgeable fans knew that.
Now I would have rather kept Vonn Bell and let Peat walk. That is a head scratcher there.

Still glad he's gone. Him missing tackles on a good team was worse than him missing tackles on this shite show of a Defensive Unit

Most knowledgeable Saints fans knew we couldn't keep him no matter what. They didn't want him gone but they were resigned to that because of Salary Cap Hell.
And yes, the MUH LSU PLAYERS crowd did dunk on him after the fact because we signed the Honey Badger. How's that working out for you?

Combine the salaries for maye and tm, that pays for Williams and you change cgj to ss.
However, Williams is now on IR and cgj is a double edge where he gives up huge plays but he makes some plays too.

Gardner-Johnson got a couple of cake pics last night, but he hasn’t been good for them this season. He’s part of the reason they’ve been getting roasted in the 2nd half.
Their corners are the real deal though. If he moves back to nickel they’d have the best trio in the league by a wide margin.

Should have at minimum franchised him again. We had the cap space. With him and Gardner I don't think the defense is this bad even if only for 2022. Allen is way over his head as a coach.

We spent more on Maye (bust) and TM (Mega bust) together than Williams. We could have used Williams + PJ or Williams + Evans and been way better than we are today

Everyone wanted CSP and drew gone too
Long story short:
The internet is fricking stupid

How bad would MW have wiffed on that last JC TD?
Badger took a bad angle.
MW would have got trucked
frick Marcus Williams.

I’m still glad that MF is gone. We never were winning anything with this team with Winston or AD. But Williams missed tackle cost us ultimately a super bowl in my opinion

We weren’t beating the Eagles in Philadelphia that year. He cost us a trip to the NFCCG, not the Super Bowl.

I think next season is the time to rip the band-aid off... Suck for a year to come draft the franchise quarterback. Get someone in the front office to make the football moves while Loomis plays with his calculator

Next year is the closest we've been to actually not having a choice. Everyone has been saying for basically a decade that we've been kicking the can and it's coming due. It never really came even semi-due until recently. This next offseason is the real "due", because we don't have a ton of moves we can actually make and we're pretty far behind the 8 ball on space.
The team is probably going to have to make some tough decisions on a few players. Also, we're basically stuck with Winston. Without a first round pick to take a cheap QB, and without any cap space to sign one, it makes no sense to cut him and sit on dead money when we could just play him another year and wait for a cleaner cap in 2024.
So, we might be in a tough spot now, next year is going to be worse. I expect we will bottom out next season..

This is correct. Seems Town needs some positive affirmation in his life
