Simulating offseason quarterback changes

This article predicts 2 things for the Saints this offseason.

1. They will make a run at signing Garoppolo as a free agent but be unsuccessful.

2. They will resign Andy Dalton and draft Hendon Hooker in the 2nd round. Dalton will start as a bridge QB and Hooker will take over either late in 2023 or 2024.

In other predictions, they have Jameis Winston going to the Colts.

Not a projection, it was a simulation. They had each team's beat writer act for the team. Kat Terrell represented us.
She:

-Made a trade offer for Carr, which he vetoed so they cut him

-Made an FA offer for Carr. He signs with Jets.

-Made an FA offer for Jimmy G. He signs with Raiders.

-Signed Andy to 1 yr $10M

-Drafted Hooker at 40

2nd feels rich for me but it's possible he proves he's worth that by the time the draft rolls around

I definitely support the team taking stabs at QBs until we find one

Same. I know all the talk is about how well his recovery is going but these types of injuries are always concerning. I was figuring it more like a third-round pickup. But this is just not a great QB class.

He can't do anything physically so he's going to be have to be Einstein on the chalkboard for teams to talk themselves into overdrafting a 25 yr old injured QB.

Just curious what you base hooker being a bad at VT on? He was at 61% comp his 1st season and 66% comp his 2nd season. His passer rating was top 20 in the country both seasons. He was top 20 nationally in yds/att both seasons, so no dinking. ...

Well IMO that's what he'd have to do even if he wasn't injured. The Tennessee offense didn't require the guy to make multiple post snap reads. Just not what their offense did. He has the arm talent and he's athletic enough. He just hasn't had to show that he can process a defense.

It honestly kinda makes him a bad fit for us. He'd go from 1 read to 4-5 on every snap in our offense. Would need a ton of growth.

If we don’t sign Carr or Jimmy G, draft and Hooker and why not another QB later on? Let them battle it out in camp.

Well last I saw him he was throwing dimes all over the field at Tennessee and was near the tops of the Heisman race until injury. . Levis and Richardson were trash cans but for reasons unknown to me they are projected first rounders. I don’t buy the whole “he’s a system qb” take. Dude balled out against stiff competition . People can get better. See: Joe Burrow

Best case scenario IMO. But I hope just because they take Hooker doesn’t mean they’ll be scared to take another one if they get a top 3 pick because, let’s face it, if Dalton and Hooker are our guys, that’s going to be a very realistic scenario.

Hooker would need to sit AT LEAST a year but I still value bringing in multiple guys coming in and competing. Just because you take Hooker in the second doesn’t mean you don’t take one the following year too. Give yourself as many stabs at the most important position as you can

No he wasn't good at VT. Tennessee helped him develop the type of throws he makes fits our offense. Especially, Olave.

So the Colts fired Reich, and promised to fix the qb situation, all so they could sign Jameis?

Stetson Bennett balled out, but he will never start an NFL game …..

Agree on Stetson. Little bit different situation though.
