Yeah i hate the one year deal with the extra dummy years added on.
This team has alot of young guys who dont make much we dont really need to do that yet.
Spread the cap hit out but not too much we have the money to pay him now

One of these teams: Brown, Broncos, Jets, or Giants will sign Cousins, taking them out of the QB hunt.
You have Bills and Vikings wild cards as well.

Not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind taking a QB, just not in the first round.
I'll melt hard if it's Mayfield.

Kiper has a mock where Mayfield is gone at #13 to Washington, which after the Alex Smith trade isn't going to happen.

Time for Drew to take a paycut to help the team. Brady has done it and they put more pieces around him and build the defense. It’s a winning formula. He already made plenty money

One years are fine to me. Unlike a few of the "he's gone" crowd around here I have no worries.
Look his money was going to be guaranteed so having one of those long big contracts that look big but has outs and not all guaranteed makes no sense at this point. If he is not going to ask for max money then you don't need extra years to spread it out and it helps keep dead money off the books. We have had our fill of that.

This again?
He doesn't need to take a pay cut. We don't have the cap issues we've had in years past. You're not writing the check, so I don't know why some of you are so fixated on this.

Not to mention the extra $12 mil hitting the cap if Brees hits FA
everyone needs to stop talking in terms like drew isnt already a FA
the second the last whistle blew in Minnesota, drew was a FA and that extra $12m kicked in
the correct way to say it is if they dont resign drew so they can avoid that hit and spread it out in the new contract, then it hurts the cap room when trying to sign cousins

Brees and Saints will do 1 yr deals until he is ready for retirement. He will never play for another team.

If you want to be NE then go root for NE. Im tired of the comparrisons. You dont think other teams have tried what they do? They clearly have more things going for them then just having brady take less of a cap hit.

Brees' wife didn't make 48 million past 2 years neither.

My only have two concerns:
1) the 18 million currently in dead money that needs to be spread out.
2) Needing a successor.
So if Brees gets a 2 year deal then the Saints need to draft a replacement (No offense to Hill) and need to start claiming some of that 18 million.
I know the thought is when Brees is gone the QB will cost about 4 million so adding 18 million to that number still makes the QB spot for say 2021 22 million.

I would be perfectly fine with some kind of 5 year 50 mil deal. Instead of killing the cap the next 2 years, give us space to make splashes. If he hangs it up after two years he still gets paid when we're probably playing with a drafted guy.

Drew and Saints will agree to a 1 year deal for $20 million this year.

That's not true at all. Even though his contract is scheduled to void at the start of FA, he is still currently considered under contract and if he extends before the start of FA the extra $12 mil does not hit the cap.
That's why it's extremely important to extend him before free agency, otherwise we lose the ability to sign at least 3 more good-great players (be it our own or from other teams).
It very well could be the difference between resigning Kelemete or having to let him go, and with how banged up our line gets and how versatile he is we definitely should do everything we can to keep him.
