Does this really make sense for Atlanta?

I’m sure no one here is excited about discussing the Falcons plans or feelings, but does this really make sense for them? QB is the one position they have already. Now they are going to trade away a top ten pick and many of their future picks, take on a $40 million cap hit on Ryan, bring in a $35 million cap hit on Watson, and all to go from Matt Ryan to Deshaun Watson?
Would they not be better just having Matt Ryan as their QB? Using all of those draft picks, using that $35 million in cap space to fill the numerous holes they have?
This conversation has very much been what does Watson want. I know about the personal connections. But do we get to next week with a Falcons franchise being luke warm about the idea entirely? I like Watson a ton and want him on the Saints. But in an attempt to be unbiased, this seems like a horrible move for the Falcons. And that’s before we discuss bad publicity and possible suspension.

What has Ryan done for the falcons if the goal is rings. Like someone said he will be 37 years old this year

They need to rebuild badly. Getting a top QB is always a good idea, but giving up what few assets they have and some serious draft capital needed for said rebuild probably doesnt move the needle. It'll be the Texans all over again.

They’re betting on the long distance future with this move. They won’t really be able to put together a contending team for 5-7 years probably. And I’m sure Watson knows that. Their pitch for him was probably “come home, be around your people, we will support you long term in your career and build a team with you”

Been saying this from the beginning. It’s gonna be a disaster for the next 3-4 years in ATL if they get Watson. Coach will get fired etc. With the assets ATL will lose, Texans will be a better situation for next 5 years.

i agree, even though I think it'll set their rebuild back years if they have to give up prime assets and up to 3 1sts. I think the better question is; does this makes sense for Watson?

It makes zero sense. They need to rebuild and giving away the picks prevents that from happening. Ryan is getting older but he’s been the most consistent thing Atlanta has had for over a decade.

You can’t answer this question unless you know him and understand his motivations and desires. I can’t be mad at a guy who has experienced hardship (in a sense) and wants to go home to be near his friends and family. He probably believes that the organization long term can eventually compete and is willing to take that risk to be close to home.

If the Falcons can trade for Watson, it's going to absolutely destroy their hopes for being a good football team for the next three years. They are going to have to provide players and three #1 draft choices, but the catch is their roster is awful and their defense is worse. So they are going to have Watson, which is cool and all, but they are going to be bad. Even worse than they are now.
I can't blame Watson for wanting to go home. If that's really what he wants then none of us can really say we wouldn't do the same thing. On the other hand, he can win NFC Championships on the reg in New Orleans.

They could get a top 5 qb. Yes that always makes sense. An elite qb is about as rare as it gets in sports so you make the necessary moves then figure it out.

Yes, they will have a 26 year old QB under contract for many years that is from the area and chose them.
They can live with being bad for 2-3 years because...
They have a QB.
