The right answer is to not draft Campbell at 9

Your drafting a project at Guard or your creating a project at guard by moving penning while likely not improving your RT spot much.

There are good LG prospect to be had later in the draft.

Keep in mind Fuaga was a 22 y/o rookie, when Penning was 22 he still playing at Northern Iowa. We know progress isn’t linear but we need Fuaga to take a big jump going into year 2

Wow, I do not recall Wirfs being such a combine monster:
36” vertical and 4.85 40 at 320lbs.
How did he last to pick #13?

Why the aggression towards Campbell? If he’s drafted he’s the immediately more valuable asset to penning due to way more cost controlled years and likely higher ceiling. Campbell and Fuaga would EASILY be my tackles and I’d shift penning in. I’d also draft another true guard relatively early and elect to not pick up the 5th year option.

That’s what training camp is for. You play your best 5 however they fit best. Will would be one of those 5 but at least for his rookie year I could see him starting at LG and eventually moving out to tackle depending on how Fuaga keeps developing at LT.

The right answer is to not draft a LG at 9. Period.
Is Will better than Fuaga at LT?
Is Fuaga better than anyone at RT? Yes.
Can Penning play guard? No idea.
Whomever we draft at 9 or even trading down mid teens we are going to get a really good player.
New staff really since 2015. No one knows. But my money is on a better oline put forth by a offensive HC.

Not really any aggression. People are sensitive i guess. I don’t value Campbell much as a LT. But, i also don’t believe we need a LT. It’s a wasted pick. Campbell isn’t a sure thing at tackle so you’re basically taking a big questioning mark or a guard at 9. Which isn’t intelligent

Wirfs is the kid that had the video of him box jumping out of a pool and landing on his feet on the ledge. He can also do a standing backflip. There’s just not many humans on the planet that can be that big and still be that agile.

I like Campbell but you do not draft a guard with a top 9 pick

Chris Naeole isn’t walking through that door, folks.

I hope the saints use at least 2 of their mid round picks on offensive lineman, but not the 9 pick.

And I would never move a capable OT away from tackle so Fuaga isn’t moving anywhere in my book.

Did a deep dive on Jihaad Campbell, don’t think we are talking about him enough. Perfect for Staley’s scheme

Penning has had his best year yet at RT

Which isn't saying much when you look at his previous years.

Penning would be great at OG.

Well maybe. But how many reps at guard in college or pros are you basing this on?

Old adage was you don’t draft a OG in first round only a OT

Campbell and Penning fight to see who is right tackle and right guard. Unless they think Will Is an improvement to fuaga. Then he will take over left and Fuaga would likely start over penning at right Tackle, and then penning Probably would have to go To right guard. Patrick Was very effective at left guard And of course McCoy at center.

But I think the most likely scenario if they draft him is he and penning battle it out on the right side. And fuaga stays put

RT Fuaga

This is the way with Young being 6th man

He won't be there, and even as much love as I have for my Tigers, Will had WAAAAY too many pre-snap penalties for my liking.

I can't imagine Campbell not being an improvement over Fuaga.

Fuaga was solid as a rookie but this board overrates his year b/c he didn't suck and we have PTSD for shitty drafts. Campbell is only falling due to physical issues projecting to OT.....physical issues that Fuaga also has.
