re: Derek Carr was in the top 10 in almost all meaningful QB stats for week 1

I was but I also take things for what they are not become biased because im a fan. Those Saints teams had glaring holes on offense and questionable coaching despite one of the best defenses the NFL has seen. I mean lets be honest did they honestly think Bobby Hebert would lead them to a superbowl? -especially with the quarterbacks that were playing in that era. This will get downvoted by all Saints fans but again any objective fan will tell you what I’m saying.

He kind of had a Derek Carr like performance. At some points he looks like an All Pro. Others, bad throws and questionable decisions (the INT before the half was awful).
That said, it was game one against a good DL that blew up the Saints OL far too many times. So I can see why Carr probably never felt very comfortable at any point in the game. The good news is he made some big throws when he absolutely had too.
With very little threat of a running game he fought through a tough game to pull out a win. Hopefully the OL will settle in. Kamara coming back should at least give the threat of a run. Not a prefect start, but Carr at least gives you confidence the Saints offense can possibly be explosive. That's not something you had with Winston and Dalton.

To be fair I didn’t think he called a lot last year because our oline was shite and the qbs couldn’t throw a decent screen. In the preseason with Kamara we were throwing screens.

People raggin on the win cause of their record last year fail to mention they were no.1 vs the run and they have owned us.
After just one game it already looks like the offense has some work to do to catch up to the defense.

Stats are great but I prefer my QBs to actually put points on the scoreboard

I’m not even sure if we win that game with a prime Drew Brees. Carr’s mobility was key in extending some plays.
Drew might not be carr at extending plays but he was better at extending plays than he gets credit for imo

Really, just the OL.
When given time in the pocket Carr was fine. The WRs and TE caught just about every ball that was reasonably catchable. It was a tough go for Williams as the #1 RB. But that could be in large part because the DL was winning the LOS. Still, when the Saints had to pick up some 3rd and shorts he was able to do it on all but one. He even had a really good run to close out the game (barring the fumble, of course).
I don't think this offense will ever be prime Brees years. But if the OL can improve and make Carr a little more comfortable it can be top 15 or so in the league.

stale run game that wasn't helping out.
If this doesn’t change you’re not going to compete for the playoffs.
Have to be able to run the ball effectively.

Titans run D was one if the leagues best and we were missing Kamara. It’ll get better.

Once in a Wild Card game in January 2019 between the Eagles & the Bears with each team going for two late in the game and not getting either conversion.

I agree. If the 49ers weren't dominating the NFL in those years, who knows what might have been. We had them twice a year in the old NFC West.

A Raiders fan at the bar I was watching the game at said that Carr is good between the 20s. I think that is spot on as they struggled to get in the end zone.

I think that's when getting creative with Kamara will come in.
