It’s just a matter of time before Derek Carr is off of the Las Vegas Raiders roster. He’ll either be traded or cut by February 15. The Raiders would obviously like to trade him but that’s proving difficult thanks to the no-trade clause they put in his contract.

Carr can stand pat and tell the Raiders to release him, which is the most likely outcome. At this point, it appears that the team is preparing for that to happen. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Las Vegas isn’t even allowing Carr to speak with other teams yet.

“My understanding as of right now is the Raiders have not granted Carr’s camp the ability to seek a trade,” Breer wrote. “And even though there are the aforementioned teams out there with needs, dealing him before the Feb. 15 deadline—when his $32.9 million base for next year and $7.5 million of his 2024 money vests as fully guaranteed—won’t be easy. And he absolutely won’t be on the Raiders’ roster past that date, so there is the idea that teams that are interested in him should just wait for Las Vegas to cut him.”

I will melt if we trade the first we just got for him. If Carr couldn't make it work with McDaniels and Adams, why would he be successful here?

Apparently he won't be traded... he'll be cut.

Obviously this season is concerning when weighing him as an option, but he was good the previous 4 seasons.

Of the QB's that are expected to be in the market this offseason, he is one of the best if not the best available. You either go after him, Jimmy G, or Aaron Rodgers. Or, you draft a QB with your first round pick.

I would be very interested in him once he's cut. Obviously money will be a big factor

Why would we be interested? Is he the long term answer at QB? No. He’s a stop gap for a few years if that, and we are in cap hell. I swear some of y’all, it’s time to tank.

No matter who plays what, I'm having trouble seeing next season as anything but a disaster.

Yeah he has moments then just disappears. Like a career C+ guy. Expensive for what you get.

Why? Because of name recognition? He’s mediocre to the highest degree. We just experienced a season with two mediocre QBs, why do y’all wanna do that again?

Right? Like paying Mercedes money for a Mazda with AC

No. This is how shitty teams stay shitty. They force themselves into bad situations with subpar QBs. There is no evidence that Hooker OR Richardson should be taken before the third round and should sit for a couple of years before given a starting gig. We don't have the capital to compete in a bidding war for Rodgers. Purdy playing so well has made a lot of teams bullish on Jimmy G too. As for Carr, I've already spoken at length about why that would be a bad idea.

I'd much rather draft one (I still dont like this year's prospects) than invest multiple years and a lot of money into someone meh like Carr and Jimmy G.

He would be stupid enough to give the 29th for him

I mean, Mac Jones and the Pats offense really struggled after he left. They went from the 7th scoring offense to 17th.

Carr had weapons. Waller is a beast even though he was hurt. Still, he had a top 3 WR, a RB that had a career year and was arguably the best at the position this year and a pretty good slot receiver in Renfrow and he put up pretty abysmal numbers.

I just don't understand the obsession with him. He threw for almost 5K yards last year but we always talked shite about Jameis for actually doing that. He's only thrown for 30 TDs once in his entire career. Is he better than Dalton and Jameis? Yeah. Do I think he's capable of overcoming Pete and DA to help us win a title? No. Not even slightly. He would just buy DA more time and prolong the need to actually draft a replacement.

List of teams that should/can go for his services:

NYJ - needs a solid veteran to lead them, because Zach Wilson is done.

Tennessee - Literally defense is built and an offense that is run first is tailored for him to just come there, manage games, and win it every now and then.

Indy - same as Tennessee

Washington - intriguing IMHO because they're still young enough to keep building, but they have some offensive talent.

TB, Carolina, ATL, and NOLA - all need QB; the most "ready" is TB

Unfortunately I can see this regime making a strong move for one of these bridge QBs, the goal being self preservation and not winning a title. Contending in our dog shite conference is probably good enough for Gayle

If you were Derek Carr and spent your career with the raiders. Why would you come to the saints with DA? No one else will either. 2024 draft will be a blast

Even loomis of that dumb. My guess is they'd be happy with a 4th or 5th, it's better than nothing
