I’m behind him. I want him to do well whether I think he will or not. But that offensive line is going to make it tough.

Dang, that’s the majority of the season. Can’t believe we missed the playoffs

Win at Indy vs backup QB Minshew
Win vs CHI backup rookie QB Bagent (almost lost)
Loss @ MIN vs third string QB Dobbs (zero Carr TDs)
Loss @ ATL vs QB who was benched Ridder (zero Carr TDs)
Loss vs DET (fell behind 24-7 at half)
Win vs CAR rookie QB Young
Win vs NYG third string rookie QB Danny Devito
Loss @ LAR (scored 1 TD first three quarters)
Win @ TB good win vs Baker
Win vs ATL vs Ridder

He really ran the gauntlet here. Is Carr better then all of these QBs save for Stafford and Goff (people think he’s better than Goff )

People think he sucks bc he played a schedule littered with rookie and backup QBs and could not elevate this team to a playoff game

All year only 8 nfl qb’s with 200 attempts were better than Derek Carr.

Again you can get much worse than Derek Carr.

We scored 3 first half TDs in the 5 losses of the games you’re referencing. That’s 10 quarters of football

Didn’t lead an opening TD drive til week 16. Only scored a TD on 50% of his red zone visits, bottom half of the league. Tough to play defense when you’re consistently falling behind on offense

Look Drew Brees isn’t suiting up ever again

Welcome to the NFL everyone can’t have an elite qb. We have a better qb situation than about 20 other teams all you dudes do us whine.

Your not getting better than carr in the next 2 years so suck it up he’ll be gone after that damn.

I wouldn't say 20 teams, but generally I agree with you.

Kirk Cousins
Bryce Young
Baker Mayfield

Those are the other 3 QBs in the NFC South. None of them are heads and shoulders better than Carr. The Saints aren't a real Super Bowl contender. That window closed a few years ago. So you might as well enjoy what you have for the moment and hope a new OC and decent defense could be enough to win an average/below average division. It could be worse. At least Carr has had some level of success in the NFL. You have some teams going into the year with worse guys at QB.

I agree with you here. What doesn't help the situation as it is argued and discussed is that there are several national media pundits who will contend until the end of time that Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins are both the second coming of Tom Brady, just without the Super Bowl rings and playoff wins. Derek Carr doesn't get the same treatment, so fans are under the impression that they are significantly better than our guy. In reality, these 3 players are 3 different versions of the same guy.

If he was a top 12 QB he wouldn’t go 9-8 and miss the playoffs vs opponents who were a combined 40 games under .500. Yes, our opponents had a win% of 43% last year. This is your king

Maybe he would have if the oline had performed higher than 28th in the league.

This is your jester.

O Line getting Carr killed. M Thomas being crap. Cam Jordan disappeared. Kamara misses 4 games again with dog shite backups. Payton Turner missed all year. Pete Carmichael's offensive vision. I mean feel free to talk about anything else non Carr related about our team's performance last year.

A guy who was just paid 55 million he yearly just did that. Just blew his teams playoff chances.

Yeahhh, I think that might be an issue of you seeing what you want to see vs. reality. I don't know of too many in the media who have even remotely suggested Cousins and Mayfield are the "second coming of Tom Brady". If anything, both have been criticized (justifiably so) for their entire careers.

Mayfield is coming off a season where he led his team to the playoffs and won a playoff game. Cousins is better than anything Atlanta has had since Matt Ryan. That's why they are being viewed in a more positive light right now. Or at least being given the benefit of the doubt.

Carr went from essentially getting benched by a perpetually dysfunctional franchise to doing nothing noteworthy for the Saints last season. Why would you expect the media to be optimistic about him going into this season? Carr will have to earn praise. And if Mayfield and Cousins struggle they will get the same criticism they've received their entire careers.

He saw pressure on only 15.3% of his drop backs. 2nd least pressured QBs amongst qualifiers. You think he accumulated these top 10 numbers without a relatively clean pocket? Not to say the OL was anything special, but there’s enough of a book on Carr to say there wasn’t anything abnormal by his performance last year

Surely you don’t think I’d disagree about the state of this roster. This is a Carr thread. You just described all the reasons not to pay Carr and why you just roll Dalton or Winston types

I'll bite. Went to Pro Football Reference and looked at 2023 QB stats since they let you export to excel. Removed all non-QBs and anyone with less than 200 attempts. There were 36 QBs that fit your parameters, but you never defined "better"

6th in completion percentage
19th in yards per game
17th in TDs/gm (23rd when you add rushing TDs)
5th in Int per game
10th in Passer Rating
17th in QBR
