I appreciate that he retired now rather than sitting on IR for a year and making the cap situation worse

I can't believe there was no compensation demanded by him.

What would the advantage of keeping it quiet be? Just to make Carr look a little better than he otherwise would, or are there cap implications?

I don’t know the ends and outs of the NFL salary cap but this is my thought. Keeping it quiet with back door payments may save the Stains a lot of money in cap space. Again I don’t know, it is just a thought.
