Great player, but Shawn Peyton hates LSU kids.

As Schultz has alluded to, and in this most recent article specifically called out, Jones was expected to become a leader for the Falcons. However, per Schultz:
If Jones had a leadership presence for younger players, the team could justify keeping him in 2022. But he has been anything but that.

Sure, but he's also really fallen off.
Was kryptonite for Brees though.

Sounds like even the fans of the Falcons aren't really crazy about him (at least the writer isn't)

Jones signed a four-year, $57 million deal before the 2019 season. It almost looked like a sneaky bargain for an impact player with only his best years ahead of him. Then...not. The big hits almost entirely disappeared. That sideline-to-sideline speed was no longer putting Jones in position to make big plays. His poor performances were overlooked for a while thanks to a defense falling to the bottom of the league, but he was under heavy scrutiny a year ago.

Do we think a part of it could be the culture in Atlanta? Crazy to think that kind of fall off but sometimes the big pay day for players is all they really want and the desire drops AKA the Albert Haynesworth Syndrome.

Would have to feel out the situation. If he just isn’t a leader type guy then I can deal with that as we have other leaders in the team. If he has a toxic attitude and is a cancer then it is a hard no but as someone alluded to that could just be the bad culture in Atlanta and wanted out. Would have to have a serious discussion with him and feel him out. With that being said if we were bringing in a vet lb then I would rather just bring back Kwon

i don't see the fit here with Werner up and coming.

The biggest concern I would have is speed is such an important part of his game. He uses it to help overcome his size disadvantage. If he's slowing down, his play will quickly taper off. I have not watched enough Atl games the past 2 years to know if that may be the issue.
From the article, the speculation is he would be a post-6/01 trade as it would save them $14M. Cutting him after 6/01 only saves $1M, so doesn't look like that would be an option. If that's the case, I don't see the Falcons trading him to the Saints unless he's completely falling off and they can fleece us

I took my son to a Spring Game a few years back and Jones and some other NFL players were there. He was signing an autograph when I was walking up with my early teenaged son to get his autograph and he looked right at us and said "I'm not signing anymore". I thought it was a dick move but whatever. Kinda plays into that leadership issue in my opinion.

Seems like a bit of a locker room cancer

On a highly incentivized deal, sure. So I guess a prove it deal….

It is Atlanta though… losing creates cancer

You have to be trolling about the name at this point…right?

Im not saying this is 100%, but I'm pretty sure that the DC left after 2018 and Dan Quinn took over calling plays. Maybe he just didn't fit what DQ was doing?

Is it possible that his Dline took a step back?

2 of their top 4 Sack leaders left after 2019 and another after 2020. Not apples to apples but something.

No to signing Deion Jones. I really think Deion Jones could get a starting gig somewhere else for more money than we would be willing to pay.
Yes to signing Kwon for cheap. Kwon already knows our system, we could use his pass coverage, & he's well liked in the locker room. Not sure if Deion Jones would be a good locker room guy, but I know Kwon is.

I would hope that Loomis is above being fleeced by the Falcons. Talk about a complete train wreck of an organization.

Or maybe he just wanted to hang out with the fellow players and felt that he had signed enough autographs. They are people too and I bet having people bother you all the time becomes a drag when you want to just hang out for a bit. Not that it is your fault and my son would have loved an autograph too, but you have to take a moment and imagine being bombarded with that all the time.

why are we not more bullish on Pete Werner? Not a lot of splash plays, but 62 tackles in under 400 snaps is pretty decent work for a rookie. His numbers are proportionally on par with DD, who we all think is a dog.
Just curious. You dont hear much chatter about him and it seems like Saints fans would rather overpay for an oft-injured FA than trust this guy.
