Just curious. You dont hear much chatter about him and it seems like Saints fans would rather overpay for an oft-injured FA than trust this guy.

He didn't go to LSU duh.

I kid I kid Werner is fine I don't think the FA LB talk is to displace Werner. He is going to be solid. Think it is more to find someone the fill the role Werner filled last year. We are obviously sliding him into Kwon's old spot so now who takes his. Does Baun finally develop, Hopefully but he hasn't showed signs of it yet.

Or maybe he just wanted to hang out with the fellow players and felt that he had signed enough autographs. They are people too and I bet having people bother you all the time becomes a drag when you want to just hang out for a bit. Not that it is your fault and my son would have loved an autograph too, but you have to take a moment and imagine being bombarded with that all the time.

I would agree with you but there was no line behind us or anything. He was actually standing in the stadium entrance and it was just us at that point. So it wasn't as if he signed ours it would just go on and on with the next people. I wasn't insulted or anything, just thought it was a slight dick move.

I actually think we'll be fine at LB if Davis, Werner, & Elliss stay healthy. The addition of Kwon would certainly make us better at LB, but he wouldn't truly be NEEDED unless there is an injury to 1 of the other LB's (mainly Davis or Werner). We would have a huge weak link in pass coverage if that happened.

That being said...I still really want to sign him. He's a perfect fit for what we need. Kwon would still get playing time, but not as much as he had the last 2 years with us imo.

I've already written Baun off as a bust...as far as playing LB goes. He looks lost out there. It really isn't easy to transition from a 3-4 OLB to a 4-3 OLB...not easy at all.

He's a damn good special teams guy, & can still be tried out as pass rushing specialist. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think that's his ceiling. I'd be damn happy if he reached it though.

why are we not more bullish on Pete Werner? Not a lot of splash plays, but 62 tackles in under 400 snaps is pretty decent work for a rookie.

After we drafted Werner, I started a thread on him after looking at his game against Clemson. The dude was as solid as it gets. He didn't allow his man a TD or a 1st down. When he tackled his man, they went down hard. No RAC. When they blitzed Werner, he disrupted the play and/or got TFL.

Werner is legit.

Not truly needed but it is great to have three guys that you can rotate and keep fresh while not losing much productivity. Plus adds insurance from an injury and Kwon should be relatively cheap at this point

I’d be all for it. We don’t need him to be a leader, that’s what we have Cam, Demario, and TM for. Plus, if it pisses Shaun off, that’s an added bonus.

Well i can tell u this much about the saints. THERE IS NO SHAWN PEYTON any where in the saints building and never has been in the saints building. Be my guess look up "Shawn Peyton" but i will tell you that all teams usually look for the best available player at a few different positions they are looking for so that may be part of your answer

Shawn Peyton never likes LSU players...no reason, none, that he hasnt drafted any.

If Werner’s name was Jacob Cutrera these dudes would be calling him the second coming of Ray Lewis

I have said this in another thread. I do think there is something to not drafting local guys as they are trying to adapt to the nfl life while still around all of there family and friends that detour them from focusing on the team. By picking guys from out of state you take them away from that environment and a force them to rely more on their teammates and build cohesion along with focusing more on football and not outside distractions. Proven vets have already learned to adapt to nfl life unlike rookies.

If it is right or wrong to exclude local players I don’t know. I’m an lsu fan as much as the next guy but it worked and Payton wasn’t willing to take those risks on local players too much.

Hard to pass on Joe B when he is first overall. I wanted Darrell Williams but let’s face it we were looking for a 2nd or 3rd rb at best. He is not a game changer. Could have been a money issue or they could just be rolling with the guys they got.

I don't understand this either. Werner performed really well last year.

He will be starting this year so that tells you how the saints feel about him.

Werner is a really good player. Don't need deion jones.

I think most people are not concerned about Werner. I think the concern is the depth behind them. You are hoping for Baun, Ellis, or maybe even D’Marco Jackson to take a step forward and fulfill a reserve and rotational role. With so many good vet LBs available naturally there would be a desire to plug somebody in proven in that role. And you would also have someone that can take over if for some reason Werner struggles in a larger role. Ideally that person would be Kwon though as we know the fit is there
