I don't know what this thread is about but I've been staring at that GIF for the past five minutes

The head of NFL legal (Adolpho something) was on M&M this morning and it sounds like the NFL are sticking to their guns. He reiterated that no settlement offer had been made and the evidence of a "bounty" program rewarding "Cart-offs" and "knockouts" was "overwhelming".
Somebody (hopefully the NFL), is going to fall hard.

Sorry to thread hi jack, but if you're in the Fap talk league head over to the fantasy board and check into the National Fappers League.

Oh, and this is getting good.

Even though the judge confirmed that there had been talks at the hearing last week. God I hope they get exposed soon.

The only way I think Payton comes back is if the Judge overturns all player suspensions
Even if the players win the judge won't overturn the suspensions. She has cited the part of the CBA that says some entity besides Goodell handles punishment for on field issues. All that would happen if the players win is their suspensions would be handled by some committee of people employed by the NFL, so maybe you get them cut in half, they won't go away completely and it wouldn't effect the discipline on the coaches at all.
One thing the league does like to avoid is having it's dirty laundry aired in public, so if Vilma was able to get far enough in his defamation case I could see the league folding rather than winning in court but getting a huge public black eye that could also hurt the injury lawsuits this whole mess was created over.

I still like that the comments on PFT suggest that it is more likely that the judge is crooked than the alternative that maybe, just maybe, Goodell embellished the facts a little to support the stance that the league does, in fact, care about player safety.

If the players win, they get a restraining order against the NFL from being able to suspend them until the case is heard outright.

This. He already pissed off Jerry Jones and Snyder, this might be the nail in the coffin.

I don't think they are looking to overturn suspensions, just that Goodell acted outside of the CBA. Remember, is this on the field or conduct detrimental to the NFL? Vilma says On the field, NFL says conduct detrimental giving Goodell cart-blanch to do whatever he wanted.

This article is very confusing.
if the NFL produces that document and the NFLPA really did ask the NFL to not announce suspensions at that moment, what does that have to do with appeals?
quote:I get this part. If they can't produce the document showing the NFLPA asked the NFL to not announce suspensions on march 21st, that's an issue since they said that happened in court.
Either the NFL lied in Court
quote:But this part, i don't understand.
or it was just proven that Goodell had his mind made up way before any appeals were to be heard. Thus devaluing the appeal process

From what I gather, it's VERY important. Because the evidence suggests that they hadn't made their mind up yet that Vilma was guilty on March 21st and trashed his name in the court of public opinion. But then later on, after he declared Vilma guilty, he said "no, we hadn't made our minds up yet."

I'm just curious as i'm getting a better understanding.
Also, what were the public quotes about Vilma in question?
THanks,

THanks,
The NFL is contending that Vilma/Suspended players didn't make use of the appeals process. Vlima is saying its a sham because your mind was made up. The NFL says we knew what we wanted to do on March 21, when we handed out penalties to the coaches, but the NFLPA asked us to hold off so they could investigate. On March 14th, the NFL denied their request (there is an article about it by Jim Trotter of SI).
It matters because they are trying to prove that Goodell didn't, in fact, have his mind made up on March 21st, thus making his statements about Vilma publicly before the actual punishment was handed out and without appeals being heard, defaming him before he had a chance to defend or even heard what he was accused of.

It is becoming more and more obvious that NFL's response has EVERYTHING to do with the concussion lawsuits and NOTHING to do with "Player Safety".
