Could an NFL owner be more out of touch with reality than Gayle Benson?

I don’t have the heart to link the article from the Jeff Duncan interview with Mrs. Benson but credit to him for asking her the tough questions. Basically, Loomis is untouchable and Joe Dumars has known Willie Green since he was a little kid. Oh and just be more patient! Wow! This might be the most disheartening article I’ve ever read.

Something I've been saying in most of these threads even if the fanbase doesn't want to hear it. NFL teams are a business first. Jerry Jones allegedly cares about winning, but I would bet the majority of owners actually don't as long as the money keeps rolling in.

Not saying Gayle is dumb, but nothing in life has equipped her to oversee and make decisions regarding a sports franchise. Much less two. In that regard she is an outlier among the other owners. Many of them have built/earned their wealth. Or at least have experience in business of some kind.

This. She inherited the Saints. Most owners today actively purchased their teams. That means they have a desire to see it be successful. Gayle doesn't want to run a football or basketball team. At best, she just wants to make sure the teams stay in NOLA to make the people happy. Otherwise, she stands out of the way...in large part because she doesn't know HOW to run the businesses.

What makes you think that?

You have it completely backwards. Benson being involved in day to day decisions would be out of touch. She 100% knows she knows nothing about football. Thats not out of touch. Her issue is over trust and over cautiousness.
As Lincoln said of McClellan "he has the slows".

Mark Davis
Al Davis was a coach, commissioner, and owner in his career. Absent ~3 years, Al Davis was in charge (in some capacity) of the Raiders for the entirety of its history until his death. Mark worked for the Raiders in some capacity for essentially his entire adult life.
Gayle was essentially a "trophy wife" her entire adult life and just so happened to be married to Benson when he died. She had NOTHING to do with the Saints, ever, other than being married to the owner.
