No they don't. Everyone is just amazed we got a third round talent as an UDFA.

Shanle only had 17 tackles for loss during his whole time at Nebraska. Thomas averaged 12.5/year. In total he had 51 TFL versus Shanle's 17, a 100% difference. Shanle had 6 sacks in 3 years. Thomas had 27 in 4 years. Another difference of a 127%.

This. Fact is, the guy is someone that could be a NFL producer but people didn't want to waste the draft pick. He's jumps off the tape on film and got high grades from the experts. He's just slow.

To get him as an UDFA is awesome. Don't cost us anything to find out how he translates into the NFL.

From what I've seen of him he looks almost explosive, but I think that's because he just doesn't waste any movement. He makes a b-line for whatever he sees.

Shanle played ten years in the NFL, he was doing something right. He had a decent NFL playing career as a role player

You are mistaking excitment over where we got him (UDFA) to excitment over his skills too much.

Many of us mocked him to the Saints around 3rd or 4th round.

I think he will be better than Shanle (1st half) and a hell of alot better than Shanle (2nd half of career)

I don't know. SI's scouts said before the draft that Chase Thomas would be a better, more athletic Paul Kruger.

I love this. You know it's "that time of the year again" when ST members are bitching and debating over the merits of an UDFA more than even some of our draft picks.

Put it this way. I'd rather have Thomas as an UDFA than another team having him. If he pans out, fantastic. If not, oh well, but at least the Saints will get the opportunity to keep him.

So what your saying is we have an LB that can lead the defense in tackles and be a defensive MVP for or team and help us win a Superbowl... fricking awesome.

How was your pro career uncle rico

I agree but I figured we'd be past the days of a "capable starter" and maybe want a superstar on our D

Uhhh, I'm gonna take a flyer here and guess that the list of undrafted free agent superstars isn't extremely long. . .

He was a projected third round talent. He IS a UDFA talent.

Yeah, the problem with Shanle was the team didn't have anyone better to start ahead of him. He was like Fred Thomas at the end of his career, fans got pissed at the player but it's not their fault no one else was good enough to beat out a guy that should be a bench player.

There was probably a reason Pierre Thomas fell so far too, but he's done well for us.
