Does that mean the door is closed on CSP to the west coast?
Also a friend of mine (with no insight) thinks a dark horse for Payton will be Indy.
I know. Get better friends. Lol.

Indy has a strong foundation if you plug in a qb there.

Fwiw I think Ryan could be an above average transition QB for another year ot two with the right coaching and play calling.
Not sure Indy would give up that #5 pick though. Maybe a 23 2nd and 4th and a 24 1st. If they like a QB coming out in 23.

I'm fine with taking someone's 2nd this year if it nets us a 1st next season also

Irsay and SP don't seem like much of a fit... SP will want to go somewhere with a less-meddlesome owner.
Denver seems like the best destination for him. He can navigate the Russ decline since he did it firsthand with Brees.

I don't know why but chris ballard reminds me of a Jeff Ireland type.

Just because they are in the playoffs doesn’t mean the coach doesn’t get fired IMO. I’d think they are the front runners, but I don’t know what CSP thinks about their ownership.
Since Fangio’s name is out there, I wouldn’t think Denver is on his radar. Plus, I think he ends up in a big coastal city like L.A. or Miami. Or maybe somewhere like Vegas or Chicago. But not a Midwest type team.
But I could be wrong.

The Chargers fired Marty Schottenheimer after a 14-2 year.

Chargers get bounced in the first round and they will sniff around Payton

Been saying for for a while now. Them and Houston will be the dark horse

I think that’s the likely scenario for any team picking in the top 10 who would want Payton

The Chargers ownership may be the worst in the NFL. If they were located in Michigan, no serious coach would ever consider them.

They want Jeff Saturday. Lol

I don't think Indy's roster is significantly better than what the Saints had coming in to this year, and they would be in virtually the same boat as the Saints at QB...with the only difference being they should have a high pick in the draft whereas the Saints don't. Plus, Indy has a loose cannon as an owner.
Payton wouldn't say so out publicly, but I'm sure he wants to go to a place with a good, young, QB. And just because teams that have those, Chargers, Bengals, hell, maybe even arguably Chicago, have HCs whose performance on the surface doesn't warrant firing, NONE of those teams have a HC with the record of success like Payton. Many times, you are only as loyal as your options. You may be very happy with your HC. But if a guy who is significantly better wants to join your team your calculus may change.

Now there's something CSP has a ton of experience in.

You remember when there were some on here saying they would draft Jordan Love over Herbert? Yeah, good times

No, because the Chargers offense is as frustrating as they come - second to only the Raiders in regards to talent/ouput.
They have Justin Herbert throwing 5 yard in routes and 7 yard slants 30 times a game when he's got the arm to throw spitting piss missiles. He is not being used correctly. Payton would blow his wad designing an offense with Herbert. Not to mention Ekeler who is as good as Kamara.
