You can still win with a shitty backup TE

I just watched the whole thing, and it’s really hard to argue with. Carr is not all that expensive as QBs go, but he’s nowhere near good enough to soak up the cap space he does. This is going to make it really tough to win. What he didn’t get into is what you have to do to overcome this. The answer is that you need killer drafts that provide 4-5 starters each at low prices. Throw in, say, a questionable deal for Chase Young turn into “oh my goodness, he has 15 sacks and now looks like a bargain.” Yeah, that’s a lot of hope, but I think that’s where we are.

Well its not 33 its 37.5 a year when Mickey lets him stick around for all 4. And if you want to be real he's actually about 65/year now because the past two seasons are dead and gone and we haven't payed him shite yet.

Should we go over how much the Saints paid per win last season? When you include rollover, dead money, signing bonuses to circumvent the cap, it's pretty extensive.

Yeah I kind of wish the Saints would just cut bait and eat the salary cap hit and roll with Peter Mahomes and Mango (along with some cheap veteran back up). However I wonder if any potential new coach was like No so the Saints decided to extend him to try and attract a coach.

The mental gymnastics this fanbase does every off-season to convince themselves that things "aren't that bad" is truly impressive. We are the worst run franchise in the league from a roster and cap perspective, the entire fanbase knows this, but 60% of yall convince yourselves that things aren't that bad. Every off-season, like clockwork.

Ticket renewals are due soon or they have already paid up.

It’s a tough pill to admit I just flushed $8K down the toilet so this board is their coping mechanism. The same posters who bash Carr and Juwan 3 months ago are celebrating a $69M cap next year and 3/30M for a bottom feeding TE.

Do you think we should be a great team every year?

This is a stupid argument. If a team is not great they should be striving to get there, not spinning their wheels chasing 9-8 and maybe winning a bad division. You’re right no team can be great every year all the Saints have been doing is delaying the inevitable. Now you have an old expensive team that was 5-12 anyway. Is there a single young player in this team that makes you excited for the future? Is there even a top 100 player? Hell they drafted Braun but couldn’t use him and let him go to Philly it’s a joke at this point but by all means get psyched up for at best a 9-8 season and get those excuses, (injuries, Kellen Moore sucks..) ready if they don’t make the playoffs

Once again, it’s a fair market deal. The contract isn’t the problem.

The man giving out the contracts is the problem, b/c he has yet to realize this. He dug the hole and keeps digging it deeper.

Wrong as usual. Unless he really kills it this year, he’s getting cut as a post June 1st designation. I think they wanted to this year but it woulda been to hard on the cap.

You just making shite up. That’s like saying if Loomis front loaded his contract the first year, his salary would only be 10 million. His yearly salary is what it is, you don’t have to make shite up to fit your bias.

when you say digging it deeper, you mean our years keep getting cap worse than prior or we aren't out the imaginary hole fast enough for your liking?

They keep extending and adding void years to mediocre players so it’s the same which is arguably worse. Given the recent record

It’s 4 years of no playoffs 2 losing seasons and 2 9-8 how long is it supposed to take to be legitimately contending?

Years and years of giving out bad bloated contracts and then extending contracts to old players or mediocre talent b/c you are forced to due to cap restrictions is definitely the way to go. It’s working out great the last few years by our domination of what’s been the worse division in the league by far.

Lets keep digging that hole tho right…

‘Sometimes you have to look beyond the results’

‘Just because the results are not what we want, doesn’t mean what we are doing is wrong’

Well we totally would have if not for …..….injuries or is Dennis Allen we’re blaming now? Maybe both? I lost my Loomis excuse decoder ring

Mickey has been playing a dangerous game with the cap and every year his decisions give him less options available.

What happens next year if Carr says no to a contract extension and elects to play out his current contract that expires at the end of 2026 season? The options are, 1. Saints are royally screwed because they have no future years to restructure the ENORMOUS cap hit that will be due. 2. Carr controls the negotiation and Saints have to beg him through pay him more to start his retirement sitting on the bench as dead roster space and dead cap, just to get some cap space.

There has to be some other angle the Mickey and the saints are playing. Is there a plan to sell the team and they are just trying to get through the next year or two before this group runs off? They are playing the same game for themselves that they played to keep the band together for Brees final years.

Agreed, but thought it was funny that when he did that he still cherry picked his comparisons. He goes down his list of QBs with the higher cap hits than Carr, and freezes and stops right before saying Watson. Then goes on the rant about how those teams can do this because they have Burrow, Mahomes, Allen... and neglects to mention that Dak, Stafford, Murray are all in that mix. Again, not arguing against the overall message, just thought it was funny that he had everything right in front of him and still couldn't help himself from manipulating & cherry picking the data

It also seems like he wanted to touch on Carr's 2026 cap hit; but then locked up when he realized that even with a projected $69M cap hit, there are still 5 other QBs with higher cap hits next year (Watson, Mahomes, Dak, Lamar & Goff). Again, the point still stands that Carr is worse than 4 of those; but he froze when he realized his argument was not about to work out as he planned it
