Worst thing you can do is let a loser coach sign players to huge contracts like this.

Marginal upgrade if that. Jameis is probably better when healthy.

But let's say Carr is better for the sake of argument. Dennis Allen and Carmichael lol. What a joke.

Just wondering why you believe we are screwed without Davenport. We are almost always “without” Davenport.

Well good luck drafting a number one overall QB with your new fandom of some total shite team

Reminder that Mahomes and Allen were picked 7th and 10th. Foles and Brad Johnson won Super Bowls.

Carr is merely a bridge and we will remain competitive, give that to me any day over muh tank

You know they both played healthy at the same time, right? In no universe was Jameis ever considered a better QB than Carr.

He’s still butt hurt because we didn’t mortgage everything for Marcus Williams.

I don't want to sign FAs much.

I want to draft well and re-sign our draft picks. That's how you win in the NFL.

Wut?

Where did I talk about this?

Cool. I never said we had to try to get the #1 pick.

To what, specifically?

I never advocated for tanking though.

I'm advocating for pallative cap management to get us in a position to be able to re-sign our successful draft picks again.

If you doubt Loomis ability to handle the cap and make things work you haven't been paying attention.

If you think Derek Carr deserves $100,000,000 guaranteed you’re out of your fricking mind even if you haven’t been laying attention.

Thats in the ballpark of others

Per nick

So, $37.5 million per year. Not bad. Reasonably priced.

Derek Carr -- $37.5 million
Kirk Cousins -- $35 million
Jared Goff -- $33.5 million
Ryan Tannehill -- $29.5 million

I love everyone freaking out over his contract number. Dak makes $40M and Daniel Jones is about to as well

Chiefs floated in the Wild Card playoffs for years with Alex Smith before they got Mahomes.

I know you’re a fan of extreme hyperbole but cool your jets. I remember our fan base freaking the frick out about Brees’ deal too and he was way more proven than Carr. By a lot. Fan bases HATE any contracts that they don’t get an absolute steal on.

The point of blowing it up for that window was to take our medicine after the window closed.

This is not a thing. I know it was fun to say, but no teams in the NFL ever "blow it up" before the season even starts. Who has tanking ever worked for? Only some idiots on this board believe that is a real strategy.

Maaaybe, if your team is 1-7 at midseason you can start dumping some players for draft picks, but even that rarely works. Miami did that and ended up with Tua - how's that working out? The Texans have arguably tanked by hiring crap coaches for two years, now after years of misery they have to hope Bryce Young or CJ Stroud isn't Zach Wilson, Sam Darnold, Mitch Trubisky, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, RGIII, Blaine Gabbert, or Tua. Even the Jags with "generational talent" Trevor Lawrence were about as good as our Saints last year and barely made the playoffs. Even if they get better over the next couple years, by then they'll have to pay Trevor 60+ million to stick around.

The models are obvious: Kansas City, San Francisco, Buffalo, Philadelphia - build the best team you can and keep trying to win, if you get a shot at a QB you like in the draft you trade up and take a swing, plugging him into a good team that can win before his 2nd contract payday.

Besides, who wants to watch a team lose for 2-3 seasons. Life is short, think about how much that would suck. I'd rather we have a real shot to win every week, then hope things break our way in the playoffs.

I hate the contract for us, specifically.

a. I never said we should "blow it up"

b. Wrong. The Titans are in a 2-year "blow it up" scenario as just one team doing it in real time.

quote:

Miami did that and ended up with Tua - how's that working out?

Playoff team and potential contender if Tua can stay healthy

Also I never said we should "blow it up" or "tank"

quote:

Besides, who wants to watch a team lose for 2-3 seasons

Do you think that this is sustainable and we won't suck for more than 2-3 seasons once the chickens come home to roost?

That's the part y'all refuse to understand. Those days are coming.
