You can't spike the ball if the clock isn't running apparently.

Jamies thought Landry was stopped in bounds.

Landry was ruled out of bounds
Clock stopped
Spike on stopped clock = Intentional grounding

Spiking the ball with a stopped clock is intentional grounding.

Winston didn't realize that Landry stepped out of bounds. I can't fully blame him for that. I thought Landry was tackled in bounds as well from watching on TV.

I mean the ref signaling clock stoppage was right there at the play. Pretty important thing to pay attention to.

When does the clock start back up?

That’s a stupid fricking rule. If you spike, you are conceding a down. There shouldn’t be a penalty assessed. Too bad there wasn’t a 10 second runoff attached to it.

I mean, the coaches talk to the QB’s in their helmets. It’s obviously what they told him to do.

You're thinking of this wrong. Think of it as they're giving an exception to the rule if the clock is running.

Coaches should’ve let him know. Also Landry was touched and down in bounds, the referees blew that call

It was weird because Landry was clearly down inbounds and the clock should have.been running. The ref screwed up and the Saints didn’t realize it and treated the situation with what really happened.

Hence the 10 second runoff. There should be a spike exception under 2 min.

Landry was obviously down in bounds, ref said he was out, coaches didn't realize he was called out of bounds, coaches told Winston to spike to stop the clock coaches thought was running, Winston haters type up insults about his intelligence.

It wasn’t to “avoid a sack”. Not sure if it’s grounding. It seems more like giving yourself up

Got proof or are you just basing this off an assumption?

Either way....the QB has to look for the refs call.

We had two frick ups just trying to spike the ball in a 3 play span.

He was stopped in bounds. Refs missed it.

Pank give it a rest. Winston balled out second half and we won.

Sorry you obsessed the whole game shitting on him. Sounds like you enjoyed the game bud
