“There’s a lot of factors that go into my head coach, the only head coach that I’ve had in the NFL taking a reprieve, or a sabbatical, or whatever he’s going to call it. Because he didn’t say he’s done coaching, in fact he said ‘I look forward to coaching again,’ right? So you’re saying he’s done with me? I took it personal.”

But at the end of the day, Payton’s decision to bow out now didn’t sit well with Jordan. He reflected on all the challenges their team overcame last season, and how now he and his teammates have got to keep on moving without the only head coach they’ve ever known.

“I’m like why you going to leave now? We’ve been knocking on the door of the playoffs every year, even in this tumultuous year, being displaced to Dallas, starting 52 or 53 starters, I’m going to say 58 because it’s a bigger number. Going through four quarterbacks and still having a shot at the playoffs at the end of the year and ending in the positive. What were we, 9-8? Teams prior to this we’ve seen teams get into the playoffs with a losing record,” Jordan paused, then finished: “For Sean to step down, it’s got to be bigger than football for him.”

Hopefully the team will play harder for a coach that didn't quit on them.

He's nailing it.

It can be a simultaneous "thanks for all you've done coach" but at the end of the day payton is saying "i want to move on from you". City/fans/players/staff/etc.

I totally get it but Payton has every right to do what he sees fit to decide and I have the right to state my opinion that I think it was kind of sprung on everybody and if you are looking for CSP's balls you will find them conveniently tucked in his wife's purse.

This is totally how I took it as well, and I’m surprised that nobody had really mentioned this yet.

He did say he sees himself coaching again. So it wasn’t really saying goodbye to coaching, he was just saying goodbye to coaching New Orleans.

I’m a huge CSP fan but this whole thing was a big F U. I’m not sure why we gave him such a nice exit. He’s just quitting the Saints, not quitting the sport

A few posters were saying this when his decision was announced but it was a Payton jerk-off love fest in here and we all had to be "grateful" for Payton blessing us as coach for 16 years.

Yeah a few idiot posters who want to shite on the best coach the franchise has ever had. The saints would still be in the dumpster if it wasn’t for him. He left this franchise much better off than when he got there. You have been railing against Payton for years. Now you are trying to slam him for walking away when you wanted him fired.

Maybe he does end up coaching somewhere else. Regardless eve saints fan should be grateful for what he has done for the team.

Bottom line, he lost one wife who didn’t want to live in New Orleans. He wasn’t going to lose a 2nd wife for the same reason. As much as it sucks, I can’t really blame him for that.

Three 7-9 seasons in a row with prime Brees from 2014-2016. You are literally still obsessed over a hot take of mine from 6 years ago. Time to move on man.

That’s fine but it ain’t about you Cam

I’m pretty sure Payton is burned out. It happens. Doesn’t have to be more than that.

I think this cannot be understated. Regardless of the exact reasons (NOLA crime, heart not 100% in it) I think what we all fail to realize is these people are human. He's got kids same as many of us regular people on here have, and a wife just like many of us. They have regular shite to fight about, let alone the pressure of Head Coaching an NFL franchise. He already lost one wife to divorce once, and adding to that he has kids not living at home and missing out on time with them. I think it's not a coincidence that the "Home Team" film came out right now. He probably felt ready to do the film to give people an inside to what he went through. That probably brought back a lot of emotions for him.

Payton was sitting there smiling saying he's excited about the future and literally says about coaching again. It was a polite "i'm gtfoh pc"

I think someone like Cam has every right to feel a certain way being that he went to war with the man every week since he's been drafted.

And when he's suddenly hungry again for Dallas next year?

This guy voluntarily lived in Mogudishu for 16 years to coach this team, and somehow the city is getting WORSE than when he arrived after Katrina

I wouldn't have blamed him for just straight up quitting

We were the only NFL that offered him an NFL HC position.

maybe because of the democrat party and the liberal filth that Sean Payton himself helps pimp.

I totally agree. Thanks Sean but eff you if you coach the Cowboys in two years. They keep skinning this dude when he said, “I’m done with you!”
