They’re about 15M over the cap now.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jordan and the Saints have agreed to alterations that will create $10 million in cap space. Jordan had a base salary of $13 million in the final year of his current pact, but there are three void years to spread out the cap hit.

Serious question (I'm assuming OTC and Sportsrac aren't up to date right now. How do these extra void years affect his void year in 2023?

His cap hit for next year was 12,749,250, based on the remaining pro-ration from his old deal and all the restructures. Is this hit combined with the new bonus and all of that is spread out over the entire new deal, or is this hit separate from the new proration? That would make his cap hit next year from dead money something like $16M

*ETA: if the "three void years" the article references are the ones he already had, wouldn't this push his 2024 cap hit (when he had no contract) to $25M+?

of his current pact,

Is this some new internet-hive-mind thing to refer to contracts as “pacts” all of a sudden. I’ve seen it like 5 times today after never seeing it before in this context.

Is it some woke bullshite? Or just run of the mill hipster/sportswriter goobertalk like “that tracks”?

Cams reworked contract details.

Only added 1 void year so he already had 2 VYs from his last contract.

Compairng OTC (which is usually late in reporting) to spotrac, it looks like he added a year in 2024. spotrac shows a base salary of $5.2M in 2024, and OTC has his contract expiring in 2023.

If this is the case, then his cap hits will be:
2023: $15.4M
2024: $15.3M
2025: $12.6M

Screenshots in case things change. 1st one is spotrac, 2nd is OTC

OTC now updated without 2024 and shows cap hits of $15.1M in 2023, and $23.3M in 2024. If this is the case, hopefully it's because he wants to retire and he does something similar to what Brees did to let the team spread that cap hit over 2024 & 2025.

I don't know if we can do that with all the void years. I don't remember what Brees's void year situation was.

And if something happens to Cam this year we are frickED.

Drew signed an extension for league minimum, then officially retired with the league office after June 1st.

If Cam does this, I suppose he'll have the league min $1.165M, his $10.2M can kicking bonus for a total cap hit of $11.4M in 2024. Then they'd have a cap hit of $13M in 2025.

Interesting that they didn't just sign him to a new deal.

I guess they could always do a new deal whenever, but it does make me think.
