Cam and Honey Badger will count over 31 million on our cap next year.

Loomis just recently signed both to huge extensions.
They were both great in their day. But honestly could have gotten young guys off the street on minimum contracts and wouldn’t have seen much of a difference this year. They will only slip further another year.
Team is going nowhere until Loomis is gone.

New coach will cut that old bait. No way they see the 25 team.

Everytime I watch mathieu he looks like he’s making a business decision.
He certainly needs to hang them up.

If Cam wants to come back, he’s going to come back. He’s an institution in the organization. Cutting him doesn’t get you cap relief and he’s only playing as a back up.

I thought Chase Young’s cap charge of 13 million was bad and Cams is 20.
Love Cam to, but even the 9ers got rid of Joe Montana and how many superbowls did he win them? Gotta be smarter than what we doing.

Badger signed through 2028, void does not kick in until after 2025. The can was kicked so hard he’s uncuttable for 2025. You’re in the death spiral years, probably only the 2nd or 3rd inning.

I think honey badger is back and Cam is a June 1st release.

Would love to be in the war room with Payton and loomis going back and forth

Cam has one more year in him hopefully at a restructured discounted contract
Unfortunately Honey Badger needs to bow out gracefully

Cutting them post June 1 only saves you $17.5 Million.
Here are the top 15 Cap savings if cut post-June 1 based on what is on over the cap https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/new-orleans-saints
Derek Carr - $30,000,000
Ryan Ramczyk - $18,000,000
Cameron Jordan - $11,000,000
Taysom Hill - $10,000,000
Erik McCoy - $8,305,000
Chase Young - $6,816,000
Tyrann Mathieu - $6,250,000
Nathan Shepherd - $4,820,000
Juwan Johnson - $4,625,000
Rashid Shaheed - $4,200,000
Demario Davis - $4,000,000
Khalen Saunder - $4,000,000
Foster Moreau - $3,934,000
Jamaal Williams - $3,150,000
J.T. Gray - $3,100,000
I don't know if Hill will ever play again. Ram is done and I am kind of tired of Carr. Cut or trade those guys and you free up 58 Million.

Ive never understood all the Cam love and his new contract

Dumbest moves ever...Loomis should be shown the door for such atrocities. These guys are in the twilight of their careers and age has certainly changed their prowess.

You can only use 2 June 1 cuts per year. It's not as easy as cutting everyone after June 1. Now trades after June 1 are unlimited.

I got some bad news for you. It’s not that easy. Apparently the salary cap DOES actually exist.

Carr is not getting cut. His deal was for at least 3 years. And Mickey already restructured it last year to get under the cap so it’s almost impossible.
Ram will definitely be a post June 1st cut.

Cut, cut, and cut some more.

Listening to WWL last night to a NFL cap expert, I think it is likely that Cam agrees to a signifiant pay cut due to diminished role. Apparently, this works to reduce cap as it is not a restructure, simply an agreed upon pay cut from the original contract. Also possible with Mathieu, but not as significant cap savings.

It's a restructure, but it's not one that adds to the cap. If a player agrees to just reduce his annual salary (or a roster bonus), then we get that reduction in full. Ram did this, for example. That's not what we typically do where we convert that salary into a signing bonus (so the player gets the same $ in his pocket, ultimately). The player actually takes a real paycut.

Problem is you don’t realize that relief until after 6/01, and the team needs relief now.
If you cut Carr now as a post 6/01 cut, you only get $1.3M in cap relief now, then on 6/01 you see the other $28.7M relief. They need to be cap compliant by mid-March

We underestimated the value of even old Drew Brees and though the defense and run game
could keep the window open after Drew Left.
