Who is "they"? Sure, one guy every now and then speaks up but for the most part he isn't in the conversation. You might hear "is Drew Brees underrated?" "does he not get enough praise?" but that is just window dressing because there is always someone who makes sure you know that he isn't as good all time as (insert QB here).

It's because he's retired. People always look at people not playing as legends. Therefore influencing their view

I think where Brees separates himself is his level of elite play as he's aged. Elway was still good but he was a shell of what he used to be by the time he won a Super Bowl.

Marino's physical skills were deteriorated by the mid 90s, mostly due to injuries. He was never the same after that achilles injury.

This is a solid point, but there is also something to be said for a guy coming into the league at the QB position and dominating straight out of college.

Marino revolutionized the game in just his 2nd season (and also had one of his best seasons in 94 the year he returned from the Achilles, but did have a huge drop off after that), and Elway’s uncanny athleticism and leadership carried average teams to Super Bowls FOUR TIMES IN HIS FIRST SEVEN SEASONS, but his best statistical seasons actually came in 93, 95, and 97, and of course his 98 team was one of the best of all time.

Anyone disputing those guys simply weren’t around to watch and appreciate the dominance they displayed and how feared and respected they were as players during that era.

If the annual top 100 was around back then, I doubt there would have been more than a few years they both wouldn’t have been in the top 25 if not the top 10 every single year.

Just for a little background on how, why, and WHEN the list was compiled.

This is from NFL.com and they specifically talk about Brees and why he may not have made the list but is very likely to make the 125th team

quote:

Despite the current wealth at the quarterback position, no other active signal-caller made it, although it is easy to imagine a 125th-year team including a few of them, especially Drew Brees. Brees currently holds the NFL record for career pass completions, career completion percentage, career passing yards and career touchdown passes, although he did not hold those spots when the voting took place for this team. Brees won a Super Bowl, has been the league's Offensive Player of the Year twice and has routinely been one of the top handful of quarterbacks each season. He has, perhaps surprisingly, never been the league's Most Valuable Player.

But Brees was probably the victim of the same forces that kept other great active players off the team. With the mandate to select a team that represented the full 100-year history of the NFL, it was especially difficult for current players to make it, because those who played in much earlier eras had to be accounted for, while current players couldn't offer a complete career for consideration. The entire deliberation for the all-time team was a battle against recency bias

You say that, but people are already building the narrative against Brees.

He plays in a dome.
Not enough playoff wins.
Most of his stats came in garbage time.

Nah man, this isn’t 07-08 or 14-16, no one thinks Brees only gets stats in garbage time anymore.

The Saints have arguably been the best team in the league the past three seasons, and everyone knows Brees is the key to that.

He’s a first ballot hall of famer, and while he may not seem to get the love that Manning or Rodgers got (leaving Brady out because the rings do speak for themselves) there is no narrative against him

This is a perfect example of why I want them to win another Super Bowl so badly.

Come on man you mention Favre??? Staubach, Otto Grahmn and Sammy Baugh got in over him. I think I’d start there first! Favre is very deserving.

When I started the post, Favre was the only one recently named.

Of all QBs on the list, one could only say that Brady, Manning, and Montana deserve it over Brees. After those three, Brees is a lock. Well should have been anyway.

There’s probably 20 good reasons for Brees to be in over Favre. The only one I can think of for Favre is that he’s been to one more Super Bowl. This list is bullshite just like half the MVP awards. Brees has better numbers across the board than Favre.

No it won’t. A second Super Bowl will have them saying great things for the next year. Then they’ll go back to leaving him out of the greatest of talks.

bullshite. Drew Brees is more talented and worked harder at his craft than Sammy Baugh or Otto Graham ever worked. The game has changed, alright- and neither of these guys could hold Brees' jockstrap. I hate the "it was a different era" bullshite argument. Back then players had off season jobs and it wasn't the relentless, all-consuming, exacting profession it is now. Brees holds every record that you can measure a QB by yet he's not top 10? Get the frick outta here.

ETA- Sammy Baugh threw more interceptions than touchdowns. frick him. I don't care if DBs could mug wide receivers in 1930. Then don't throw the ball. Turnovers are the fastest way to lose a game.

Your post just typifies the ignorance and lack of objectivity rampant on this forum.
