This makes sense to me. New NFL city, trying to get fans involved.

is we still got the ball back and on the last play Brees got a late roughing the passer that was not called either.

A not very often cited example and support of the thesis that it was rigged.

Thanks.

People don't want to believe the NFL fixes it's own games but they've been doing it since the NFL AFL merger when Joe Namath beat the Colts. It's all done for money.

Thoughts, anyone?

Probably the worst any team has ever been fricked over in NFL. I mean maybe all sports… Unfortunately, The Saints always get fricked like we saw with Bountygate as another example.

Not that sports are everything, but honestly the hardest thing for me to get over sports related…

NFL has never been the same for me since then. If we won another SB I’d still never forgive the NFL for that.

It was horrible…

Will forever be a black cloud for us. Stole a potential championship from us during our golden era of saints football.

It was to prop up LA, not gambling

But it shows how a game can be influenced

The same year a roughing the passer was missed on Brees a phantom roughing the passer was called to save Brady vs the Chiefs.

And the franchise has never recovered since then, or was the start of the downward trajectory.

I think I watched the last FG or something in that Super Bowl. Should have quit watching the NFL all together after that.

Didn't watch a bit of the NFL for years after that. It was only after my kids started playing rec foitball they kinda got interested and because theit friends talk about the Saints. I turn them on from time to time after we get home from church.

I make sure to tell them it's for entertainment only.

As many others have said, a part of my fandom died that day. They are still my team but I doubt it will ever feel like it did before that.

I immediately flip off the tv and start spouting off obscenities every time I see Vinovich’s fricking face

The fact that it is slanted towards the narratives the NFL wants is obvious.

This is why I think having Gayle Benson as owner hurts us. To win in the NFL you need an owner with some clout who is actively working to smooth things and push for favorable conditions for their team. Build a stadium, donate some money, and then know when and how to call in favors when you have a strong team.

That shite ain't gonna happen until we have new ownership.

Far more nefarious than that.

The stadium, which was designed to house the NFL network, was struggling to sell tickets, but more importantly, PSLs. They needed to sell those PSLs or the owners would have been on the hook for a hefty bill.

A Super Bowl birth later and ticket sales and PSLs soared. Funding was secured and the rest is history.

And the world was cheated out of a Brees vs Brady super bowl to prop up LA.

And it would've been one of the all-time classics, but instead we got a Rams field goal.
