Best pick (first round) Wait for it ... Kenny Vaccaro, safety, drafted 15th overall by the New Orleans Saints. I've watched a lot of Saints football over the past three years, and I can tell you that this team needed help in the deep middle. I've had many a conversation with my colleague -- and former New Orleans standout -- Darren Sharper about the back four on that football team. Ultimately, the linebackers and secondary let this team down through much of last season -- as well as during the loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2011 playoffs. Let's not forget the poor tackling from the secondary during the postseason prior; remember "beast mode?" Vaccaro will be an instant cure-all when added to a safety group that features the aging Roman Harper and the wildly inconsistent Malcolm Jenkins, who has placed the bar high but has yet to keep it there in his young career.

I can't wait to see the youngster play! I said we should draft him
In February and got some flack for it. I hope KV proves me right.

We are due for a big time defensive talent

"the wildly inconsistent Malcolm Jenkins"

I see the "experts" are catching on to this fact now. He looks so great sometimes, but only for little bitty stretches. Same as PRob.

They are the Shanles of the secondary. Every now and then they make a play, but 2-3 times a game isn't enough.

That is how I'm choosing to view Vacarro. We've busted on so many 1st round defensive picks that the odds of one finally working out are now stacked in our favor.

haha. M'k chief.
I'll put a 100$ down that KV is *NOT* the best pick of the 1st round. He's a Safety, kid. Sorry, this isn't the "I wish" thread is it?

ETA: It was a decent pickup though. Not knocking the pick, just not going to say it was the "best".

well whether you believe it or not it was said in an article on nfl.com so your retarded reaction is a little overboard.

well i would too, but i think the article is saying that in terms of team needs, this guy filled the biggest hole that any one team needed. for example, chiefs o line isnt good, but they needed a QB more than they needed an o lineman, but there wasn't a good enough QB available to take. so they went BPA. saints, on the other hand, needed a safety more than they needed a LB/DE, so they went with the guy at the position they needed.

So his entire argument is that because the saints secondary is so terrible, and they drafted a defensive back, that it's the best pick in the draft? Am I missing something? by the same logic, the raiders drafting russell was the best pick in that draft, since they had no quarterback.

You again? I thought we schooled you last night?

Oh well, you've made your point. YOU don't like the Vaccaro pick.

Nobody with any kind of football knowledge agrees with you.
