You can’t assume his knee is what made him down. Looking at the replay the side of his leg is down before the knee. The shin/leg is is down by contact just as is the knee. If you look one of his legs is obscured but could be down short of the line. Also it’s almost impossible to tell where the ball is when the side of the leg is down.

I initially thought the rams got screwed but looking closer at everything that makes a player down by contact it’s really close which means the call should stand. The refs actually got this one right I believe.

Right but you’re playing what if on the other side while saying we can’t do that.

The refs did not overturn it because of the available angles. I think he got the first down, but for the ref in the booth, you cannot assume the ball crosses the marker, you have to see it. It has to be indisputable video evidence. It can’t be, well his arm is stretched so I guess it’s across the marker.

also had a couple first down catches that looked like possible drops but they jumped to the line and got it snapped.

Yeah I agree. But those were real time calls on the field. If they were reviewed then they likely would've been overturned. And the saints could be thrown the challenge before the snap.

The point I'm trying to make with this thread is that the NFL seems to be in the business of picking winners or at least helping things along.

That's not a sport in interested in.

They would pick the rams if they were doing this.

That's what I'm wondering. His ankle touched before he made the 1st down. Is an ankle considered down in the NFL?

You’re saying “we can’t predict the what if”

All while saying the rams would’ve been tied at half without that call.

100% this. I could not care less what occurs in regards to being "fair" or "honest". When the Saints win I am happy, when they lose I'm not. Same goes for the opposing team's players being unable to play for whatever reason. A win is a win and anything that leads to another Lombardi in the trophy case at the facility on Airline is fine by me.

If you're going to be an NFL conspiracy theorist, this isn't the hill to die on. There are way better examples. This was likely just a bad call on the field without enough evidence to overturn.

1) The marker on the ground isn’t even straight. It’s curving back up field making the line to gain lool shorter.

2) His shin just has to be down and not his knee. Everyone keeps focusing on the knee but your shin being don’t means play is dead.

3) There is no angle directly across from the down marker, I.e. down the line like in the goal line. Without that, it’s hatd to say for sure he made it without question.

It was a close call but by the rules there is no conclusive evidence to say for certain he made it. That is the right call by the review official. You can complain about the spot, but the review call was correct (call stands).

They got robbed, but my god what a stupid fricking call. You have the best offense in the league & you call a fake FG there lol.

It’s amazing that after all the years of NFL replay, people still don’t realize how it works.

If the original call was a 1D and the saints challenged, the play would’ve stood.

It’s pretty simple, there wasn’t conclusive evidence to overturn the call. Act like you’ve watched a game before plz

It was back and forth at that point. We weren't stopping them. I'd say it was a strong possibility

But we did and scored 21 straight.

Or I guess that was just momentum from the fake FG.

And we stopped them at the end after they tied it. Scored 10 straight to end it.

But that was just momentum from the fake FG.
