Assessment after ~1/4 of the season

frick 17 games for stealing 4 quarters of the season
The Good:
-The offensive line has gone from what was thought to be a legit catastrophe to serviceable and at times excellent. We’re averaging 4.6 ypc and have given up 3 sacks.
-Alvin Kamara looks great
-Defense has given up 4 touchdowns. Four.
-We’re winning the turnover margin
-The defense overall has been excellent(see below however)
The Bad:
-Too many busts on defense resulting in big play or penalty in crucial times. Cost us the last 2 weeks
-No RB depth behind AK. Alvin is on pace for 412 touches this year.
-No WR depth behind Olave and Shaheed. WRs not named Olave or Shaheed have 7 targets for the season.
-Very little TE production
The Ugly:
-Injuries are mounting up at an alarming rate. Add Mathieu, Gay, Taylor from today to the novel long injury report for this week. Not good and we won’t overcome it.
I think we’ll have a punches chance in just about every game. I don’t see anyone in the NFC bulldozing through everyone unless Sam Darnold has figured it out the Vikings are legit, idk.

This can't keep up. They need to add another veteran back not named Jamal Williams.

Can't afford any more key injuries, especially to the o line. If they lose Patrick or fuaga the saints are frickked

Vikings are legit, 4-0 with some solid wins. Dare I say, the class of the NFC along with the Succaneers.
The Saints' problem is lack of depth just about everywhere except the DB room, epecially lineman. We are a draft or two away from making any real noise.

I'm a Tyrann Mathieu fan, but he's a shell of his former self and can't tackle, Howden may be a slight improvement at safety. Losing McCoy is a killer and we have zero depth on the o-line. If Demario and Hill are out for an extended period of time, it will be hard to overcome.

Talk to me by week 8 or so. Every year a team jumps out quick only to fizzle out. We shall see.

Of course, see thread title.

Between him, Davis and Cam, we have NFL octogenarians starting at each level of the defense.

The Saints overachieved
Fools gold is what I would say. Just enough to be Al Pacino in GF3 and pull you back in. That's the history of the Saints.

You knew Allen won 1/3 of his total wins for the season by week 2. I knew we were fricked.

Assessment:
This is a .500 team, but, since there are 17 games, it's an 8 win team.

The good news, starting the next qtr of the season, we won’t lose on Sunday

Agree with everything.
Dennis 8-9len teams just keep finding ways to lose games.

Taysom is the biggest injury. The defense is sound even with the injuries. We need Hill and Ruiz back. McCoy will obviously be needed but we’re a few weeks from that.

History says yes. But today was not even close to Allen’s fault. They called a great game. We just didn’t execute.

I agree with this and that’s why yesterday was way more frustrating than last week. We overcame the injuries and issues and fricked it away with 3 bad plays.

This is a big loser mentality! The reality is that Dennis Allen's teams are always working to find ways to win games. With the way the offense has been playing the last two games, the Saints should not have even been in either of those games at the end but somehow they are always in it to the last drive.
The offense is shredded by injuries and many injured players that should not be playing are in games because there are no other options. AK should not be playing due to his injury, Olave is playing at about 70% so as not to make his groin injury a 4-5 week benching. Hill should not have played against Atlanta and now is probably out for 4 weeks. O-line is stepping up with what they have but when the opposing D taste blood they are going to pound on that weakness.
All the offensive problems and this team is still playing to win to the last drive because DA is implementing a game strategy that works for what he has on the field.

Depth is and has always been the issue thanks to cap constraints. No depth at OL, WR, RB. League worst TEs. Olave and Shaheed are good but should really slot at WR2 and WR3 on a contender. Nothing behind Kamara with Hill constantly hurt. OL isn’t even great at full strength much less when you get into the depth
This is going to be an up and down season, win one, lose one type year. 9-8, 8-9

I thought they would be 0-4 tbh. Kubiak is better at scheming around the oline than I thought. To bad he had to scheme around injuries this much and this early. One 58 yarder from being 3-1
