I think we can pretty much guarantee AK is gonna miss at least 6 games due to suspension (I’m not 100% sure it won’t be more). That’s more than a third of the season. He’ll probably miss—or be hobbled—for another couple. That’s a nice chunk to be counting on Ingram, Jones, and Washington, especially with our current WR and TE situations. (And nobody seems to be talking about Taysom’s injury—when will he be back and ready?).

Even if AK wasn’t facing a suspension, he’s getting up there for a RB that we depend on to be such a huge part of both the running and passing games. When do invest in another RB? Not just what year, but what round? We have enough picks to address it in the 3rd this year? Will there be worthy guys still there? Seems like RB in the 4th and beyond is such a crap shoot, you’re almost just as likely to find one as an UDFA.

Probably where elite RBs should go, so if we address it, then I hope it's further back.

RBs are cheap as shite

Historically we're also very good at finding UDFA RBs

In my mocks, I've pretty consistently gone rb at #120

I think this is a next year issue unless some one just falls in the 3rd or 4th. I believe TJJ & Ingram can tote the load for 6-8 games and you’ll have a fresh AK for the back half of the season.

I don’t expect Ingram to be back in 2023. And you do need to plan for life after AK, but I think that’s 2-3 years from being a concern

Because the supply far outweighs the demand. Which means there’s a shite-ton of RBs. Yet only about 100 jobs. Which means you’re more likely to miss the later you wait. (I’m not suggesting we use a 1st or 2nd by any means).

While true, we also drafted Michael Pittman in the 4th and cut him before the season started. I’m not sure how much is our organization’s super power of identifying RBs in the draft, finding diamonds in the UDFA RB rough, or just dumb luck.

A lot is probably just how we use them, and guys who possess certain traits are pretty interchangeable as AK’s backup with limited touches. I’m thinking more about that guy that can do some of what AK does rather than our typical #2 like Ingram or Murray, although I’m not sure we have that #2 guy either right now. But surely with Jameis we’re gonna try to be more balanced than we were with Payton and Brees. Do we have 25 productive NFL carries/game without AK right now? Especially since we’ll likely be starting a rookie at LT?

Maybe. I would have probably said the same thing until AK’s arrest.

I’m not sure they can be your #2 and #3 RBs for that many games with our current offensive situation, much less #1 and #2.

What? He’s by far the biggest part of our offense—even when he’s not touching the ball—and he’s already making a diagonal B-line to the sidelines every time he gets the ball on the outside. He knows those touches are adding up. Waiting 3 years? Yikes.

That sounds about right. What guys are typically still there around then?

I like Cook as well. Crazy that cbs has him ranked 192 overall and 15th Rb. i don't get that.

so im assuming we can grab a decent RB late in 4 or 5.

You can usually get a legit RB in the 4th/5th round of every draft. Sometimes even the 6th.

Same here, I have been wanting Brian Robinson Jr from Alabama. Good back without a lot of mileage on him. The Saints absolutely must get a good back in this draft. No telling how long they will without Kamara. I would think at least 8 games maybe the whole season.

You can. But you can also get a guy who never makes an NFL roster. For every 4th/5th round guy that turns out to be good, there’s probably 10 who never get a carry. Unless you subscribe to the theory that our organization has some special RB eval power. If we wait till then to take a guy and he busts, who are we giving carries to? I’m with the guy above, I wouldn’t be surprised if AK gets 8 games or even more. That video is bad. The fact that it was during the Pro Bowl makes it worse imo. Unless they know something we don’t, I don’t know that it’s a bad strategy to just assume he won’t play in ‘22. I think he will, I’d just err or the side of caution with the way Goodell likes to frick us.

Wow, dude hits someone and all if a sudden it's we need to replace him. He's good for another 5 to 6 years. He isn't a run between the tackles rb and hasn't been used that way. This thread is 3 years too early, and we've got way more pressing needs.

Like his style

kind of a throw back physical type.

could be a sneaky pick in the late rounds.

1) Antonio Pittman
2) that’s because they found Pierre Thomas

This is how i know you know shite about football. Life of a running back is just over 2 years. Kamara has always been injury prone so to say hes going to last 5 to 6 more years is possibly the worst ever. Well maybe not the worst but Top 10 at least.
