Rattler was a loser. Not intentionally but some people just don't have it. He doesn't have it.

We had a lot of 3rd and longs today. I thought they would have been check downs or screens/draw plays called, but Moore showed a lot of trust in Shough and called longer routes and head came through.

Why? Rattler is a decent option for qb2 and cheap.

If Burrow leaves the Bengals I’d call Cincinnati and try to get an early day 3 pick for Rattler.

Rattler is a valuable asset to have as a backup option. If he were to fill in for one or two games, he would give us a decent shot. If Shough went down for a substantial amount of time, we’d be screwed anyways. He’s probably worth at least a 5th or 6th but why would you get rid of him and then have to take another shot on a backup in the draft like Haener or Garrett Grayson?

Why? He’s got traits that could be developed into a pretty good backup for really cheap. He probably had one of the worst OL + ever playmakers in NFL history for a 1st year guy. I’d much rather pay him what little we’re paying him to be the backup for the next 2 years after this than to give Joe Flacco or Jameis $6-7 million/year.

That’s a salary cap cheat code to add guys in free agency. 2nd round starter and 4th round #2? Combined with the crazy luck we got when Carr retired? That sped up the rebuild by a year or 2. I really like this coaching staff. I don’t think we’ll be Super Bowl contenders anytime soon, but if we hit on our draft picks in ‘26 and are smart with our free agent signings, it’s not out of the question that we could compete for the NFC South next year if it’s as mediocre as it is this year and Shough continues to develop.

And it’s not like Moore is just gonna forget Rattler is on the team—he’ll continue to develop him too. I mean if Shough goes down for the season in Week 4, I don’t want Rattler starting the remaining 13 games. But assuming we invest in the OL and add some weapons, and I think he could tread water for 3 or 4 games if he had to. Getting rid of him at this point of the rebuild would be pretty fricking stupid and forfeit one of the biggest advantages we have—paying our QBs relatively nothing.

I know, right? I was nervous AF that he was going to do something stupid with 6 seconds left.
