That was clearly a fluke win. He lost to any team with a pulse. He beat new England 10-7 and a bad Washington team.

short week on the road and ended up being a one possession game

They were up 30-7 with 12 mins left the 4th quarter. They completely took their foot off the gas.

he looked just fine when he was attempting a comeback in the 4th quarter

He hurt his ribs that game. He didn't leave like I remembered but he still got hurt that game. But hey if you want to hang your hat on Derek's performance that game go ahead. We put up 23 fricking points with our defense getting 4 turnovers. Carr didn't even throw over 200 yards that game.

were still alive for the division if they beat us and Tampa lost

They had one of the worst offenses in the league last year. 26th in ppg. I'm glad our defense generated 1000 opportunities for Derek to shine lol

The funny thing is, the whole schedule looked like the last 4 games. Consistency is the difference between average QBs and good QBs

As I recall, we had one of the weakest SOS's in modern history. It was a unbelievably easy schedule and we were mediocre at best against it.

This year's schedule on paper is much harder.

3 of those 4 teams were absolute shite.

Giants with a backup qb
Rams beat our arse and carr put up garbage time stats late
Bucs had injured baker out midway through the 2nd
Falcons

I'm so sick of the "he played great at the end of the year" bullshite people espouse about carr. He does not beat the good teams.

This 1000% this.

No sane human being should be impressed about Carr putting up stats against dog shite teams.

I don’t know why this has to be a divisive topic? Carr is an average QB. He throws well down the field, but he holds the ball too long. He’s tough, but he doesn’t appear to be the best leader in the world. He has good athleticism, but isn’t a dynamic runner. He makes some really good throws and makes some bad throws.

He’s not Joe Burrow or Patrick Mahomes. He’s also not Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones.

He might win you a game. He might lose you a game.

He’s not the problem with this team.

In a sense, he isn't, and in a sense, he is.

A great QB can elevate a roster and he obviously isn't one so can't.

The Roster itself needs to be elevated in order for his play to be acceptable.

Carr injured his shoulder in the Packers game and honestly he should have sat for a few weeks afterward. It was clear that it was bothering him and was making poor throws. He played much better once it finally healed near the end of the season.

In the Mahomes era, you aren't winning a super bowl with even good qb play, you have to have greatness back there, and if you don't, go find it.

We are wasting our time with Derek, it was a bad signing. If the saints just kept Jameis and sucked we could've done literally the exact same things last year (with most likely a worse record), still drafted rattler, and been 1000 times better off cap wise.

And if Spencer isn't good, so the frick what? At least you're trying to find that qb in the draft instead of known mid commodities like derek

Last season was really strange when you stop and think about it

The offense and defense both finished in the top 10 as far as scoring offense and scoring defense.

+11 in turnover margin as well

Scoring offense got a huge boost thanks to the blowout though against Atlanta in the last game I think.

Admittedly I don't have a ton of confidence in Carr but I do think he gets disrespected more then he deserves.

They should not be impressed with it, but at the same time how many times leading up to some of these games were people starting threads about how this defense was about to lose to this shitty team, this backup QB, etc. Then when the team wins and some people see the optimism there, then it's automatically shite on because it was a shitty team and/or backup QB.

So its ok to explain away other qbs playing injured but Carr doesn’t get a pass? He got his arse beat the beginning of the season. Remember Penning was the starting left tackle. And should have missed one or two games after clearly getting hurt another game.

I was on record as saying I would have never given Carr that contract. I woukd have been for the signing if Payton was still the hc. But it’s laughable to blame our wins on hurt QBs when there’s quite a few games Carr was clearly playing hurt and should have sat.

4 turnovers. 23 pts. Carr threw under 200 yards. I'm not even really blaming bakers injury at that point. Our defense won that game far far more than derek did.

Yes and no. You can say that in the Brady era you had to have greatness too. But Brad Johnson, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Carson Wentz/Nick Folse won a Super Bowl during those years. And guys like Rex Grossman, Matt Ryan, Jared Goff, Colin Kaepernick, Matt Hasselbeck, Rich Gannon and Jake Delhomme made it to the Super Bowl.

It certainly helps to have an all-pro QB, but you can have a great team and good QB play and be competitive for championships.
