Any possibility of Sean simply resigning

He has always seems to be like a Parcells kind of guy. Any chance he simply resigns and joins the front office of the Cowboys. Seems like now would be just as good as any for him to make the move. I'm sure Jerry Jones would love to have him over in Dallas. He could play it off as he wanted to do this b/c he thought it was the right thing to do for New Orleans and he didn't want to do more damage to the franchise by hanging around any longer.

I love the saints but hate payton as a person... i wouldnt shed a tear if he never came back

If you hate him as a person, don't go to dinner with him.
That's incompatible to say you love the saints but won't care if the best coach we ever had who has the best relationship with the best qb we ever had doesn't come back.

I don't think Payton's leaving until Brees is done at the very least.

He's suspended from the entire NFL, not just the Saints. And he's under contract to the Saints through 2014, suspension notwithstanding, genius.

What does his contract have to do with it? If SP resigned, so long as he didn't go coach somewhere else, I doubt there is anything we could do about it.

He may be able to resign, but he won't be able to do anything in the NFL for at least a year.
Oh, btw, I'm pretty certain his actions in this matter are a breach of contract on his part.

I stayed off the board yesterday in hopes of the dumb threads being reduced. I was wrong.

Speculation you'd have to see the contract to know that. More likely, this would fall under "for-cause" termination of the contract. Even then Benson has to decide to act on this in a reasonable time.
The longer Benson waits to terminate the contract, the more likely a court would find that he had accepted the behavior/punishment and won't let him terminate the contract without payment for just cause

I haven't read his contract, but as I understand it there are standard conditions and obligations in each NFL coaching contract that are required by the league.

Perhaps. Each state's statutory law and jurisprudence vary on that issue.

Yes but considering there is no rule in the NFL regarding this system, i doubt Payton's contract mentions running a bounty system. If anything they probably would have to point to some vague moral or good conduct clause

And do you know what Louisiana's law says about the issue?? Keep in mind one could argue that Bensons clock on this issue started back when the NFL first announced their findings earlier this month, and not yesterday when the punishment was handed out.
