Another Zach Strief Post

I had to listen to a portion of the game yesterday, and Zack Strief is horrid. You go from the ball is snapped to a total yardage, 1st down, short of 1st down or Touchdown with no fluff in between. The most boring play-by-play commentator ever. Listening to the Rams/Chiefs game now on WWL, and what a difference.

but its not fair to try compare our radio team to that
I had to listen to WWL during the Redskins game this year and it was okay. Wish Jim Henderson would have been able to call the record breaker by Brees. Oh well.

Had to listen to the game yesterday for the 1st half. Was just okay. Don’t know if it’s Streif or the fact that he’s following a legend. Jim was so good that anyone following him wouldn’t even compare.

I don't care who I sound like. I just know the difference between a Professional level play-by-play caller and a high school level play-by-play caller. I listened to the program, and it's obvious where Strief is. It's one thing to listen to the radio while watching the game on TV, but relying on the radio only is lack luster, and I believe that is important for the Saints as well.

Strief has a long ways to go and may not ever be successful.
Kevin Harlan (who was calling the Rams game on WWL via Westwood One) is by far, BY FAR, the best radio play by play guy in all of sports. He may be the best play by by play guy in all of sports, on either radio or TV.
The descriptions Harlan gives of the action are so insanely, amazingly vivid.
Kind of a slightly unfair comparison =)

Either of the Pelicans PBP guys would’ve been huge upgrades to Strief. Kelly would’ve been outstanding IMO. He actually reminds me a lot of Jim Henderson.

If you read Zach Strief's blogs in Deke's voice it's hard to conclude that anyone but Deke wrote them.
Maybe he's still on staff as an assistant or intern over there.
Try it. You'll see what I mean.
Either Strief naturally has the same exact speech patterns (complete with the same vocabulary and grammatical errors) as Deke, or Deke is ghost-writing his blogs for WWL.

In fairness, Joel Myers would be an upgrade over 96% of people in the broadcasting business.

He shows way more emotion. I love it. It’s his first year. He’s not gonna be the greatest but I think he’s doing a great job

I agree but he wouldn’t have been a long term solution whereas Sean Kelly could’ve been the guy for 20+ years.
Strief isn’t terrible but he just doesn’t have the powerful radio voice you’d expect from a PBP guy. He and Duece have decent chemistry but it seems at times that they are two color analysts in the booth.
Joel and Sean both have the powerful voice, vast experience calling PBP, and bring life to a broadcast (Myers is a HOF level guy IMO). I thought Sean would be the better fit bc
1. He could do it for the foreseeable future
2. He brings a level of wit in his broadcast that is very similar to Jim. When the Pels are playing well, you hear it in his voice. When the Pels are playing crappy, you hear it in his voice.
The second I think is the most important for a radio PBP. I prefer the radio PBP guy to be biased to his team and emotional bc I just feel it really gives the fan a great understanding of what they can’t see. Just have to prevent yourself from going late in his career Jim Hawthorne and super negative Nancy though I think that had something to do with him getting up in age
