quote:Are you really complaining about keeping Gray (a Pro Bowler) over Scott?
Let's not forget, Boston Scott lit up the preseason, and got picked off the practice squad so we could save JT fricking Gray. We don't score touchdowns any more, so hopefully he can add to his 49 career tackle total on punt coverage.
Oh, and Mike Gillislee, TYFYS. Embarrassing.

I've been pretty anti-Saints on just about every single move they've made since they first signed Winston to be a starter for 2021. Everything has been downhill since. The Chauncey trade was the most horrific yet the most obvious.

Where would the Saints and Mickey Loomis be if the Packers actually decided to hire Payton instead of McCarthy?
On a trailing thought, I wonder what Sean Payton thinks of McCarthy seeing as he got that Packers job instead of Payton and also ended up coaching the Cowboys, and both have the same number of SBs

was in shock that so many people in this board didn’t understand how horrific this trade was.
Deep down they know the trade was horrific. Their blind love fanaticism does not allow them to think bad thoughts of the Saints as it damages their self-esteem, which is entirely tied to Saints performance. Thus, hitting that red arrow is absolutely therapeutic in confronting the reality of a shite trade.

He’d have walked after this season anyway and the Saints wouldn’t have gotten anything.

Are you familiar with comp pics bro? Letting him walk would’ve scored the Saints late third, not a measly fifth.

I’ve long had suspicion that CJGJ and WR coach Curtis Johnson we’re let go in an attempt to make Michael Thomas happy. If so, great decision.

If he thinks eagles are gonna give him the contract he wants he’s wrong
Eagles can’t afford to keep that whole d together and hurts about to get mahomes money when rookie deal up

If I’m not mistaken this is Hurts 3rd or 4th year so he’s either hitting the open market this off-season as a free agent or he’s going into his 4th year and he’s forcing a mega deal anyway because this will be the last chance for Philly to lock him up before his free agency year begins. Either way Philly is paying Hurts this off-season you can bet on it. That’s going to be at minimum $30 million a year on their books and very possibly approaching $40 million. This is the year they probably also lose Fletcher Cox on that DL. He’s getting up there in age but he’s like Cam in a way that he still plays at a high level. If he hits the market and doesn’t command a huge deal the Saints would be smart to try to get him with our issues inside and Onyemata probably moving on.

Saints are a joke and always have been. Payton just stopped the bleeding for a while, but the band aid is off.

The irony of this.
You think in this defense he's gonna get what Marcus Williams did?
Because it's all dependent on who we sign too. The reality is, 5th comp is where you would expect. He's not being paid a top 5 safety.
This trade was a byproduct of having dead money tied to players that do not play. We didn't have money to keep him or the pick. The salary dumping needs to begin today and start complete rebuild.

No way we would get a 3rd comp for him. Best would be a 4th but likely a 5th. But nice deal for the Eagles who got him for a year super cheap, performed and if he leaves get the pick back that they sent us. That’s how you GM.

Um, our defense this year was good, 9th ranked. Philadelphia was 8th. If you take CJGJ from them and give him to us, you don’t think we’re better? Only thing we were missing was INTs. No reason to think he wouldn’t have had a great season. Sure, comp pick depends on who we sign, but with our cap situation we’re probably not making any big money moves. Hell, I think we’re tanking. Easily could have gotten a 3rd for letting him walk.

On the list of things going wrong this season, our defense wasn't even top 3. However do consider how absurd the pressure generated by that front 4 for philadelphia is compared to anyone else in this league..CJGJ is not going to put up those numbers in this defense.
INT: T-4th (17) vs 30th (7)
Sacks: 1st (70) vs 5th (48); legit the gap between 1st and 2nd is 15 sacks.
The reason to think he wouldn't have done similar here was because even in his hybrid role (which he would have been in), this was his best year by far.
Think of the 3rd round comp picks this past year:
2022 - trey hendrickson (15mil annual)
2022 - kenny golladay (18mil annual)
--- remember how ridiculous things had to occur for us to even get that
Now even last year we lost:
Armstead (16mil annual)
williams (14mil annual)
- both projected as 4th round comp picks that were negated thanks to signing dalton and maye (how that makes sense, nobody will ever know).
Yal wanna play this comp game, but calculating to get it also requires health/luck with snaps played and a method the NFL will never release.
Think of it this way, JC Jackson was given 16.5mil and a prominent starting position. he got hurt early, NE is about to only get a 4th for him instead of a 3rd.
By all accounts a 2023 5th + 2024 6th is more value than a 2024 4th. Yal wishing for a 3rd is unreasonable.

It wasn’t about attitude. It was about money. They were far apart on his contract , so the Saint took the best offer on the table instead of getting nothing for him in the off-season.
I wish we would have gotten more or that we were able to resign him, but the Saints took the best option in a lose/lose situation.
