Playing devil's advocate here:
- Peat plays 2 positions on the line (LG and Backup LT)
- Has played well at times when not dealing with injury
- He's been injured in 2 monster moments (last year playoffs) and (2018 playoffs-broken hand) that have magnified some of his deficiencies
- His worst moments have been against the best the league has to offer (Aaron Donald, Fletcher Cox, The Vikings scheme last postseason)
Not at all saying I like the deal, our plan remains to be seen. The case I made isn't even a good one haha. Just don't think he's as truly god awful as some make him out to be. The saints know good offensive lineman when they see it, it's one of their best positions that they evaluate (Jahri, Nicks, Ram, Terron, McCoy, Senio). I trust our evals there as opposed to a position like Linebacker. We'll see. Feels steep

I agree. And let’s not act like Warford faired any better than Peat against those same linemen

Yeah the being able to backup armstear is underrated but I still don't like the numbers
He gets abused in the passing game sometimes

I know most here didn't like the signing (including me), but did Loomis have any better options? That said, 5 years seems absurd compared to some of the other signings.

Yeah I get all of that. I would have understood something around 4/30 but 5/57 is crazy

There’s nothing that can be done now. I think after this year they release Warford and stick Easton over in his spot. The cap will jump up next year and we’ll have more money next year. Hell they could release Warford this season.
Just need to make sure we hit on a LB and WR in the draft.

I actually thought we would sign Peat back, but at a discount. It seems we are competing against ourselves in signing him to this huge contract.

lol peat is average at best but clapp and Easton are worse
Posted on 3/20/20 at 12:25 pm to WicKed WayZ
I have seen some people say they feel like Warford took a huge step back last year. Yes Peat had some horrible games but they felt like Warford wasn’t playing up to par either.

I thought it could be a possibility too but there hasn’t been a market on him so I’m shocked we got took for so much

Yep. Warford played pretty poorly last year too. At least Peat had the excuse of being hurt. Regardless, just have to hope for the best
I am thinking this helps us come draft time. We can just draft the best WR or LB at 24 and then go the opposite in the third round.

Brandon Ayuik screams Sean Payton. To me, at WR.

our OL was best when Peat & Armstead were both healthy... but that was few & far between last season (unfortunately)
that said... versatility will always keep your career alive in the NFL... and Peat being able to play 2 spots will serve the team better than someone who only plays guard

You can’t tell me any other team was close to offering that contract. It is bad enough if he was back on a good deal because he would still suck. Now we have to watch him play like candy painted poop for the next 5 years.

Gus said chiefs were the only other team going after him.
Posted on 3/20/20 at 12:35 pm to BenDover78
If Peat is healthy and in his natural position he's a bull.
Posted on 3/20/20 at 12:37 pm to Large Farva
I hope that some how the 24 million non guaranteed is all incentive based and he’d have to be a top 5 performing lineman in the league to get it.

which is rare
he also pouts and quits like the soft bitch he is when he goes up against a more formidable rush. Dude was atrocious against the vikes
there didn't seem to be much of a market for him so I was ok with him coming back as a bargain....5 years though? Why?

Like it or love it (I don't like Peat) this was calculated like a motherf@cker.
