The nice thing about Taylor is he can be cross trained as a safety. If he can’t outplay Ceedy, he moves to the nickel. It’s a low risk/medium to high reward pick. Call it a reach once we know what we have.

I think everyone agrees that he was drafted to be a box/nickel safety and not a boundary CB
The biggest issue with Taylor is he's going to turn 24 this year. His developmental curve is almost over and we drafted him as a developmental guy.

Watch his film. He’s already a safety. He looks exactly like a safety in coverage. He’s great around the Los, makes great reads, and closes like a freight train.
Jenkins was 23 when he changed and was arguably one of the more solid safeties in the league. It’ll be fine. If in 2 years he’s shite, call it a reach.

Once more I’ve learned from this 2022 draft that sim/prospect grading sites like PFF, Walters, drafttek etc have little insight into who teams really value. And at least for the Saint last pick PFF had him listed as a 5’11” 290lb DE. He’s 6’4”.

Look at it this way. Dennis Allen, Ryan Nielsen, and Kris Ricard value this pick more than Walter football. Why the melt?

Because if the story that this was based in need and as a panic reaction to our guy going a pick earlier, then it's an issue (and they didn't really value him where they picked him)

The draft isn’t a contest you “win” based on mock value. What do you want them to do there? Pass on a DB that they think can start for a guy we don’t need just because he’s rated higher on Mel Kipers big board? Was every team in the NFL wrong about Dean and Willis too?
If Taylor was the player they wanted there, you take him. Maybe they had Brisker rated higher, but that’s the draft isn’t it? They wanted Mahomes in 17 but had to “settle” for Lattimore. That’s why you put several guys in “clouds” based on projected slots and take the best scouted guy available in that cloud.

Last year's draft is already looking good, even without Payton Turner contributing. If he is healthy and stays on the field this season, it's going to end up being a very good draft. I think it's more accurate to say the Saints take risks in drafting which sometimes lead to phenomenal drafts and other times to bad drafts. Overall, they are not a bad team when it comes to drafting, but they are certainly distinct in how they go about it.
