#1 Pass blocking O-Line

1. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
2017 pass-blocking efficiency: 84.6
Best individual PBE: Max Unger, 98.0
The Saints ended the 2017 season ranked first among offensive lines with a PBE of 84.6 as the unit allowed 15 sacks, 26 hits and 69 quarterback hurries on 559 passing plays. The Saints were anchored by veteran center Max Unger, who played 100 percent of the team’s offensive snaps, doing so for a third consecutive year and allowed just 14 pressures all season. Rookie right tackle Ryan Ramczyk also enjoyed an excellent season, as he earned a pass-blocking efficiency of 96.6, the fifth-best mark ever recorded by a rookie tackle. With the Saints set to enter the 2018 campaign with left tackle Terron Armstead back to full strength, it would not be a surprise to see the Saints top this list once again.
PFF
The NFL has evolved to a who can protect or who can get to the QB game. Saints on the upswing in both.
Time for another shout on the Graham trade too. Unger was all and more of what we expected. Graham was looking for a new job this spring.

We said it then, Saints downfall was in 2012 when they opted to not keep an all-pro, HOF caliber guard and thought they could pretty much plug and play and train/teach anyone to become all-pro.
Wrong.
I'm glad they realized it and took their time and commitment into building this OL into what it is and the potential it could become.

Going into this season with the best OL on paper in Who Dat history.
Remember when we were starting DeLapuente and Lelito regularly. Now we’re worried about 2nd or 3rd Olineman off the bench.

Um.. no. There isn’t a hall of famer on this line much less two like we had in Nicks and Evans. Those were the two best guards in the league, and I don’t think you can argue that any of our five are the best at their position.

Our offense is going to be even better to watch this year. Adding Meredith, Thomas/Kamara getting more experience and better, best o-line in football

we do have 2 maulers at guard now with Peat and Warford. Probably not as skilled as Evans and Nicks were but they are able to hold their own.
Ram was easily the most impressive O-lineman we had last year IMO. Don't really care what his "grade" was but as a rookie, he did as well as we could've hoped for.

True. No HoF'ers are currently on oline.
Ram is well on his way.
Peat can be if he gets some years in at same position.
Unger and Armstead can be all pro.

Great players and I hope they get the recognition they deserve. But wake me up when they’re both in the hall. This line has 5 pro bowl caliber starters. Have never seen this potential line in black and gold before

Considering we all know nicks' short career (due to the MRSA crap from TB), we know he won't make it.
He was already 2x all-pro by his 4th season in the NFL and the trend was still pointing up. Its like people forget just how good he really was and why he signed that massive contract for a guard.
This line has 5 pro-bowl caliber guys, true. The issue is going to be health and consistency.

Just worried the loss of Kelemete will haunt us

Nicks was a headcase too. Reliable sauces

5 pro bowlers?
Bushrod- pro bowler 2011, 2012
Nicks- pro bowl and all pro in 2010, 2011
Goodwin- pro bowl 2009
Evans- pro bowl from 2009-2014, all pro from 2009-2013
Stinchcomb- pro bowl 2009
Oh and Strief was the first backup then too.
Y’all need to get it together. Is this years oline really good? Absolutely. Are they the best in the NFL? Probably. Are the the best in Saints history? No.

Reports said we didn't even reach out to him or his agent until the eve of free agency.
Sounds a lot like we didn't care too much to keep him either.

Don't get me wrong, I love it that were no 1, but having the Bills directs behind us isn't that reassuring

I also thought the Raiders take a step back but I guess not

We didn't want to give a huge contract to a guy that still had the same maturity concerns that caused him to fall into the 5th round in the first place, despite being a first round talent.
Iirc it was the SB season where we threatened him with being benched because he was phoning it in during practices. He responded the right way (allegedly) so we kept starting him, but it was stuff like that that made us think as soon as he got paid he was just going to phone it in.
We'll never know if that would have been the case, but we were burned by Grant just a few years before so we didn't want to chance it.

I must have slept through Carl Nick's HOF career. He did have a couple really good seasons as a pro bowler.
He shouldn't be waiting by the phone though.
