Well this news probably costs us any chance of sneaking into that 7-8 playoff seed. This news really just sucked the life out of me. Pissed.

I read that but I can't find much on specifically a strain.

All I can find is that it can get better with ice and elevation, and takes a few weeks.

yeah I'm having trouble too. I think a strain is it just over stretching but not yet tearing. If that's the case, I would think someone with a strained meniscus would be more susceptible to a tear which explains the part of Woj saying we are being very cautious. I take that to mean he doesn't need surgery but we are giving him the recovery time as if he needed it.

Yea, I don't like it. HOpefully the "weeks" is just closer to 2 weeks or something, but doesn't seem likely.

Maybe we can just win the lottery again next season?

My speculative read on this is that something is strained, and zion's conditioning is still not at the level the pels want it to be.

Like, if he were in peak conditioning form, the Pels would be fine holding him out for less time, but because he's still a little fat and the fact that he's a 19 year old rookie, it's just smarter to keep him out a little longer.

So it sucks he'll be out, but we're doing this the smart way and zion will be better for it.

Malika Andrews @malika_andrews Alvin Gentry said he believes Zion Williamson sustained his knee injury in the Pelicans’ game against the Spurs on Oct. 13.

If this is accurate, he practiced all week thereafter. You don't practice on a torn anything (unless you play for New Orleans circa every year before now)

From Chris Haynes

New Orleans rookie Zion Williamson will undergo further evaluations on right knee today and possibly tomorrow, but the organization is relieved the forward has avoided any major longterm issues, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Seems a bit concerning that further tests are needed. Seems like there is something wrong that they cannot pinpoint but at least eliminated a severe injury (i.e. ACL).

Pels are getting ahead of the message in a big way, which makes me slightly concerned about why the actual diagnosis hasn't been released. But maybe they don't have a conclusive one yet. I'm sure there's a reason.

This tweet from Shamit kind of echoes my thoughts. It isn't a big injury but they are withholding actual diagnosis for a reason. Weird.

Alvin Gentry said he has spoken with Williamson and he is in good spirits. “He’s not dead, guys,” Gentry said with a smile.

An MRI would tell you immediately if it was torn or not.

ehh. not really. Obviously it will see major injuries, but when it comes to minor damage, it doesn't always see the full extent of it, at least in my situation it's like that. I had an MRI done on my ankle, which showed that there is some tearing in a ligament, but they don't know the extent of the damage and won't know until they operate. It's not torn, but they know it's got damage.
And that's why i'm not going to the Pels Talk Suite Game in January, which i wanted to make this year, b/c i'm having ankle surgery 2 weeks before that.

What i do'nt like is the "we're just being cautious" mentality. That's all we ever heard with AD. Oh NO! AD fell down on that alley oop, lets get him out of the game and do an x-ray and some tests. We saw this far too often. Get your arse out there and quit being a sissy.

Now this doesn't seem like being cautious. I'm slightly concerned that he needs "periods of weeks" to recover from whatever this is, and i'm also concerned at how hush hush this all is.

Zion has a strained meniscus and NIKE is VERY VERY concerned about his weight and his playing style. Gotta feel bad for the kid and the City of New Orleans! Wait till the experts on tv break the news though because I really don’t know what I’m talking about

What the heck would he know? Nothing. He's getting that first bit from Stephen A Smith.
