Someone has some splaining to do.

quote:

The Celtics trade has an upside of the Pelicans becoming what Utah is, in my opinion, with the outside chance of that Memphis pick getting you another stud on top. The Knicks trade could make you what Philly is, but it could also make you what Phoenix is or Chicago is.

don't forget the other all-world players he'll need as an undersized 4 if he ever wants to win a ring.

The chances of us winning a ring here are negligble. Building a team around Zion in a point forward role with shooters and seeing what he can grow into would be delightful to experience.

Ah gotcha. Good call, Tatum won't need any great players around him to win a ring. Nailed it!!!

Saw that Crewz tweet. He's right in the sense that the Celtics trade gives you a much higher floor than a Knicks trade. However, the Knicks trade has a much higher ceiling too (esp provided Zion is in that mix)

tbh the more and more I think about these options, the more excited I am about either one.

Memphis could also really stink next year and keep the pick and then in 2021, led by jaren Jackson, their stud 2020 pick, the guys they got from Conley trade and all the new guys they have now that Conley and Parsons are off the books -- the Grizzlies are back and are fighting for the 8th seed. Kind of like the Kings pick this year. Just as Boston thought they would get this awesome pick, they are probably looking at the 14th or 18th pick.

Yeah, maybe, but I would put that on the lower end of the probability spectrum. But it still being the double draft year would make the pick far more lauded.

It won't be the double draft. That is coming in 2022 or 23

I'm telling you, the Memphis pick likely won't be as good as it appears. If we get that, I flip it ASAP to a GM who thinks it will be amazing

Oh, I thought is was going to be 2021. That weakens the pick considerably (unless it falls near the top obviously).

Could we take that Memphis pick and wait for the first team to blow it up and trade it for a all star with a couple years left on contract? Got to think Pels will want to win right away and we would still be a young team with Our first round pick, Tatum and Jrue/ Smart.

That would be what I advocate for. I remember one of the first things I wrote after we made the CP3 trade was that the Hornets should look to move the Wolves pick for a young player they liked immediately. Threw out a few names, including my best idea - to trade the pick back to Minny for K Love. Something they were willing to do at the time because some guys in their FO didn't love him.

The feedback was hilarious in retrospect. I remember people commenting that they wouldn't even trade that pick for Love AND Rubio. And there were GM's around the league who thought that pick was one of the greatest assets out there. Could have got a haul for it.

I would find the GMs who believe that the second I do the Celtics pick. I identify young guys around the league I already like and see if I can get them for the pick. If I make a list of 8, I would bet at least 2 of those GMs would do it.
